Our team and what we’ll accomplish together

We are seeking a dedicated and hands-on Summer Intern (Veterinary Student) to join our innovative team at TELUS Agriculture & Consumer Goods. This dynamic role combines veterinary expertise with digital technology to support optimal animal health and production outcomes. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in veterinary medicine, comfort with digital tools, and the ability to work effectively in various agricultural settings. You'll be part of a forward-thinking team that's revolutionizing cattle health management through data-driven solutions and hands-on care. 

What you’ll do

As a Summer Intern (Veterinary Student), you'll play a critical role in ensuring the health and well-being of beef cattle while supporting efficient production animal management. You'll gain hands-on experience in both traditional cattle care and cutting-edge digital health monitoring systems.

  • Conduct digital necropsies and laboratory sample collection at client feedlot sites
  • Partner with veterinarians, nutritionists, and research consultants to deliver comprehensive animal health services
  • Collaborate with the veterinary team in performing bovine surgeries, calvings, and breeding soundness examinations
  • Drive data-driven decisions through feed analysis and health parameter monitoring
  • Develop and communicate evidence-based protocols and recommendations to client operations
  • Support research initiatives and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Manage pharmaceutical inventory and delivery to ensure optimal animal care
  • Analyze health trends and contribute to action plans for improved livestock outcomes
  • Execute administrative tasks and maintain accurate digital records

This is a full time, in person Paid Internship role, from the beginning of May 2026 to the end of August 2026. Vacancies in Okotoks,& Lethbridge, Alberta and Amarillo, Texas (one position per city).

What you bring

  • Enrollment in a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program from an accredited institution
  • Valid driver's license (or the ability to secure one) with ability to travel to client sites
  • Proficiency in Windows-based software applications
  • Physical capability to lift and push up to 50 lb.
  • Flexibility to work variable hours, including weekends and extended shifts
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Adaptability to outdoor working conditions in all weather

Great-to-haves (but not necessary)

  • Previous experience working with cattle in feedlot, dairy, or cow/calf operations
  • Understanding of agricultural production systems and animal welfare practices
  • Background in data analytics or research methodology
