How to set up and use Airplane Mode

Airplane Mode or Flight Mode is a setting that temporarily suspends cellular signals and Wi-Fi, which may interfere with various sensors and equipment on-board commercial aircraft.

Since cellular signals are suspended, Airplane Mode is the best option to use if you do not want to incur roaming charges while in a foreign destination. When you are using airplane mode, Wi-Fi and/or Bluetooth can be enabled. If either feature is enabled, it will remain on the next time Airplane Mode is used.

All device features that do not require cellular signals or Wi-Fi are supported while on Airplane Mode. These include, but are not limited to, access to your calendar, photos, camera, previously downloaded emails, books, music, etc.

Commonly used features which are not supported while on Airplane Mode include, but are not limited, making or/answering phone calls or sending text messages, and using data based applications (such as web browsing, My TELUS, FaceTime, etc.). However, if Wi-Fi is enabled while on Airplane Mode, using data based applications is possible through the Wi-Fi connection.

Also, if you are utilizing dual-SIMs and activate Airplane Mode, this will suspend cellular signals for all SIM cards activated on your device.

If you wish to have internet access while on Airplane Mode, navigate to again and toggle Wi-Fi to , or enable Wi-Fi through the Control Center.

When you are finished using airplane mode, navigate to again and toggle Airplane Mode to .

When you are finished using airplane mode, open the Control Center again and tap the airplane icon. Icon will be grey when Airplane Mode is .

Apple Watch can also be set to mirror the airplane mode setting of the iPhone it is paired to. This allows users to enable airplane mode on iPhone and Apple Watch together at once.
