Setting up Face ID

Apple iPhone 7 on iOS 15.4.0

Set up the Face security type lock to help keep your device secure. If your face is not recognized by the device, you will be prompted to input your PIN or passcode.

  1. Step 1/13

    From the Home screen, tap Settings.

    The indicator is towards the right.

    Scroll to Face ID & Passcode.

    The indicator is towards the bottom.
  3. Step 3/13

    Tap Face ID & Passcode.

    Note: If necessary, enter your passcode. You're required to set up a passcode in order to use Face ID.

    Tap Set Up Face ID.

    Note: For this tutorial, we're showing how to set up Face ID. You can also set up your phone to unlock only using a passcode, but steps may vary based on what you choose.

    Tap Get Started.

    The indicator is towards the bottom.

    With your face positioned within the camera frame, slowly rotate your head in a circle.

    Tap Continue.

    Tap Done.

    Note: If necessary, enter and confirm a passcode to use when Face ID is not available.

    Press the Side button to put iPhone to sleep.

    The indicator is in the top right.

    Press the Side button to wake iPhone.

    Note: You must be looking at iPhone to activate Face ID.

    Swipe up from the bottom of your screen to unlock iPhone.

    The indicator is towards the bottom.
