Self-installation instructions for security devices
Getting started
Welcome to TELUS SmartHome Security! Your self-install box contains all the components of your new system, and the installation wizard will take you through the set up of each of your devices. This page contains key troubleshooting steps for each device in case you get into difficulty.
You will see an insert when you open the box containing your new security panel and equipment to install. This will guide you to visit
to activate your account, enter the IMEI number on the panel and download the TELUS SmartHome app.
You can find the IMEI number on the back of the panel.
When you login to the app for the first time, you will be guided through the installation step-by-step.
Control Panel
Installation guide
Before powering up the control panel, you should follow the instructions included inside the box and initiate step-by-step guidance for installation in the TELUS SmartHome app.
Once you have reached the step to set-up the control panel, you will be shown how to:
Power up the panel
Connect to your Wi-Fi network using the panel
Conduct a system check using the panel
Please note that you will need the following in addition to the included equipment:
Broadband internet connection with Wi-Fi router
Wi-Fi network name and password
Master code (which you will have selected in the SmartHome app during an earlier step)
Troubleshooting: power up your control panel
Let’s start by connecting your power
Now let’s put on your cover and attach the table stand
Plug in your control panel, power it on
Placement of the Control Panel
The location of the control panel is an important decision because the rest of the system will be designed and tested to work with the control panel in that location. Movement of the control panel after installation should be kept to a minimum.
You should pick a location:
That is convenient - usually near the main entrance to your home
With proximity to a power outlet
Within range of Wi-Fi
If you have already installed the control panel and you are experiencing connectivity issues, you should consider whether the control panel has been moved from its original location at installation and try relocating back to this position.

Troubleshooting: Adding your sensor
If you are trying to add / pair your sensor with the system for a second or third time, you will need to perform an extra step before you begin: Remove the cover of the device. Press and hold the round button in the middle of the circuit board for approximately 10 seconds until the LED starts flashing red.
This will reset the device and you will be ready to re-use it.
Troubleshooting: Locating your sensor
When choosing the location for your door / window sensor, you should consider:
Metallic frame or door can cause interference between the sensor and the panel.
Troubleshooting: Mounting the device with adhesives
Peel the release liners off the two strips of double-sided adhesive tape and attach the tape to the back of the device and the magnet
Place the device on the frame of a window or door and place the magnet on the moving surface of the door or window itself, directed according to the location marks
Mounting the device with screws
To mount the device with screws, complete the following steps:
Insert a coin in the slot and twist to remove the cover. If a coin is not available, insert a 4mm flat screwdriver into each slot of the plastic cover and twist to open each side
Screw the device base onto the door frame
Peel the release liner off the strip of double-sided adhesive tape and attach the tape to the back of the magnet
Place the magnet on the moving surface of the door or window itself, directed according to the location marks
Troubleshooting: Testing your sensor
If you are testing your device using the SmartHome mobile app and the device is consistently failing to pass the test, it is possible that you entered an incorrect sensor ID at an earlier stage or that the sensor is malfunctioning.
