Factors that might be slowing down your Internet speed

If you've performed an

Internet speed test

and discovered that you're surfing below 75% of the maximum speed of your Internet plan, here are some things you can do to speed things up.

If you have an older device or a device with outdated drivers, you can update the drivers and/or upgrade to a newer device. For more details, contact your device manufacturer.

You may experience a slower Internet speed if you have a firewall or VPN enabled. Try turning them off.

If you have one or more programs and/or people in your home downloading or uploading files, or streaming video at the same time, you can experience slower Internet speeds. Try pausing Internet on specific devices using the

TELUS My Wi-Fi app

to see if you experience an improvement.

During some part of the day, there may be multiple people in your household using the Internet, especially if they are streaming, downloading or uploading files at the same time. Try pausing the Internet on certain devices using the TELUS My Wi-Fi app to cut down on the amount of traffic on your network.

If you're experiencing slow speeds while surfing a specific website, while others are loading at optimal speeds, the problem is likely with the website, and not your Internet service. It could be that the website is experiencing technical issues. Try checking back at a later time.
