Linking Optik TV to your Google Home app


Need help setting up your Google device? Visit the Google support site.

  1. Log in to your Google Home app on your mobile device using your Google account
  2. On the app, select the + sign
  3. Select Set up device
  4. Select Have something already set up?
  5. Use the search bar to find TELUS Home Assistant
  6. Select My TELUS or Optik TV account and login
  7. Go to your Optik TV and tune to channel 9097 to identify your digital box name
  8. Go back to the Google Home/Assistant app on your mobile device and review the TELUS Terms of Service & Privacy Policy. Select Allow > Done to exit the confirmation page
  9. On the Assign rooms screen, assign the identified digital box name to a room

Important: Give your Optik digital box a nickname. First, navigate back to Home control. Under the Devices tab, select the identified digital box. Select the pencil icon next to Set a nickname and provide a nickname.

Pro-tip: Keep it short and simple! This is how you will tell Google which digital box to command. For example, nickname one box "Living room TV" and another "Bedroom TV" and say, "Hey Google, search for Stranger Things on Living room TV."

Linking Wi-Fi to your Google Home app


Note: If you already have Optik TV and have linked to TELUS Home Assistant with the Google Home app, your TELUS modem may automatically show up in the Home Screen of the app. This is because your TELUS account has already been linked to the Google Assistant app when you set up your Optik TV. To change the name of the device or reassign it to a new room, navigate back to Home control, click on the device and select the pencil icon.

  5. Use the search bar to find TELUS Home Assistant
  6. Select My TELUS or Optik TV account and log in
  7. Review the TELUS Terms of Service & Privacy Policy. Select Allow
  8. On the Choose a home screen, choose which home you want to assign your router
  9. On the Where is this device screen, assign your router to a room

If you want to change the name of your device or reassign it to a new room, navigate back to Home control and click on the device. Select the pencil icon to make any changes.
