Interactive step-by-step guide for setting up your email app
Transition your email, calendar and contacts to a supported app
Notice
Effective
September 30, 2024
, Google will be disabling legacy applications for Email, Calendar and Contacts, which are referred to as Less Secure Applications (LSA). Services will only be accessible through modern, up-to-date applications that support OAuth (open authentication). To ensure you have continued access to your services, please follow the steps outlined below if applicable.
Overview
If you are using a third-party application that accesses your TELUS Email account or third-party Calendar/Contacts apps with only a username and password, we have provided steps below on how to switch to OAuth. Switching to OAuth will protect your account against hackers and hijacking attempts.
Email applications
Outlook 2016 or earlier
: Move to Microsoft 365 (formerly known as Office 365, a web-based version of Outlook) or New Outlook for Windows or Mac, both of which support OAuth access. Alternatively, you can use Google Workspace Sync for Microsoft Outlook.
Mozilla Thunderbird or another email client
: Re-add your Google Account and configure it to use IMAP with OAuth.
Mail app on iOS or Mac OS, or Outlook for Mac
: Use only a password to login. You’ll need to remove and re-add your account. When you add it back, select
Sign in with Google
to automatically use OAuth.
Calendar applications
If you use an app that uses password-based
CalDAV
to give access to your calendar, please switch to a method that supports OAuth. We recommend the Google Calendar (app web or mobile app) as the most secure app to use with your Google Workspace account.
If your Google Workspace account is linked to the calendar app in iOS or MacOS and uses only a password to log in, you’ll need to remove and re-add your account to your device. When you add it back, select
Sign in with Google
to automatically use OAuth.
Contacts applications
If your Google Workspace account is syncing contacts to iOS or MacOS via
CardDAV
and uses only a password to log in, you’ll need to remove your account. When you add it back, select
Sign in with Google
to automatically use OAuth.
If your Google Workspace account is syncing contacts to any other platform or app via
CardDAV
and uses only a password to log in, please switch to a method that supports OAuth.

Written guides for setting up email apps on a computer
We understand that the Gmail app may not be the best solution for your email setup, post-migration. That’s why we have created tutorials to walk you through the changes you need to make in your devices’ settings to set up your recently migrated TELUS email account using other email programs.
We strongly encourage you to
back up your data prior to completing these steps
, as you may have been storing data directly in your computer, and not on our platform. You can then import the data you have backed up after you complete the setup of your migrated email account.
We have provided some basic instructions below. Please note, TELUS doesn’t provide support for these clients. If you have further questions, we have also included the link for each manufacturer so you can get additional support directly from them.
