Set up or fix the Wi-Fi connection to your smart devices
Troubleshooting options for Wi-Fi-enabled smart devices in your home.
Have TELUS SmartHome Security devices? See
SmartHome Security
for support for sensors, cameras, automation devices and more.
Most smart devices in the home (e.g. Wi-Fi–enabled appliances, light bulbs, home assistants, speakers) only support the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band and issues can occur when these devices attempt to connect on the 5GHz Wi-Fi band.
Here are three options to set up or troubleshoot most issues with connecting your smart devices to your Wi-Fi.
Refer to your device’s user manual for 2.4GHz and 5GHz compatibility information, and for additional support.
Option 1: Connect Wi-Fi devices to 2.4GHz by temporarily disabling the 5GHz band
Use this method to force your devices to connect to the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band by temporarily disabling the 5GHz band. Any devices connected to the 5GHz Wi-Fi band will automatically switch to the 2.4GHz band or may temporarily lose internet during this process.
Using a device that is connected to your home internet, open a web browser
Press Enter (Return) and the modem’s home screen is displayed
Log in with the following information:

b. Password: see the Admin Password printed on your modem
c.
Note:
If the original Admin Password does not work or you’ve forgotten a custom created password, you may need to
factory reset your modem
.
Select the Wireless Setup or Wi-Fi tab
Select the 5G / 5GHz frequency

After setting up the smart device, follow the same steps above but select
Enable
in step 8
Note:
If you have our
Network Access Hub and Boost Wi-Fi 6
devices, after you log into the Network Access Hub using 192.168.1.254, then go to the Connected Devices page to locate the IP Address for your Boost device. Enter the IP Address for your Boost device into the web browser address bar and log in with the Admin Password printed on your Boost Wi-Fi 6 device, then return to step 6.
Option 2: Disable Band Steering to separate the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands
Use this method to separate your Wi-Fi into two Wi-Fi networks with names ending in 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
Any devices connected to the original Wi-Fi will need to be reconnected
using your existing password. See
Dual-band Wi-Fi networks
to learn more about 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks.

The smart devices network uses the 2.4GHz band and has a name and password that is unique to your modem and cannot be changed. Avoid connecting other devices (e.g. phones, tablets, computers, printers) to the smart devices network to improve the performance for your smart devices.
