Set up Critical Alert notifications
Opt to receive Critical Alert notifications in the event of an emergency

What are Critical Alerts?
If you use an iOS device (i.e. an iPhone or iPad), you can opt-in to receive Critical Alert notifications in the event of an emergency. Critical Alerts is a special push notification classification available on iOS devices that plays a sound and sends alarm notifications, even if your iOS device is muted or in Do Not Disturb mode.
Important: This feature is only available for iOS devices that are on version 12+ and running the TELUS SmartHome app version 4.11.3 or above.
Types of Critical Alerts
Critical Alert notifications are sent for the following events:
- Alarm
- Fire Alarm
- Auxiliary Panic
- Police Panic
- Carbon Monoxide
- Fire Panic
- Flood Extreme Temp Alarm
- Keypad Tamper Alarm
- Tamper Alarm
- Water Alarm
- Entry Delay Trouble
- Suspected Entry Delay Alarm
- Suspected Alarm
- Receiver Jammed Alarm
Setting up Critical Alerts
You can configure Critical Alerts using the TELUS SmartHome app by following these instructions:
- Log in to the TELUS SmartHome app
- Tap the menu button (3 lines) on the top left of your mobile app
- Tap Notifications
- Ensure that Push Notifications are turned on. If not, tap the Push Notifications toggle switch to first enable them
- Tap on the Disabled text beside Critical Alerts
- After being redirected to your iOS device’s settings, select Notifications
- Tap the toggle switch beside Allow Critical Alerts to enable Critical Alerts
Note: If you are updating or installing SmartHome for the first time, you may be asked to “allow” Critical Alerts. You’ll only have to do this once.
Make sure your iOS device is enabled to allow Critical Alerts. Follow these instructions here to verify or enable this setting:
- Navigate to the Settings menu of your iOS device
- Scroll down to the list of applications and find SmartHome
- Tap Notifications
- Slide the Allow Critical Alerts toggle to enable or disable Critical Alerts
Setting up Critical Alerts (iOS versions lower than 4.19)
You can configure Critical Alerts using the TELUS SmartHome app by following these instructions:
- Log in to the TELUS SmartHome app
- Tap the menu button (3 lines) on the top left of your mobile app
- Tap Notifications
- Tap the Critical Alerts toggle switch to enable Critical Alerts
