How to override Do Not Disturb mode on Android
Learn how to receive important notifications in the event of an emergency

What does Override Do Not Disturb mode mean?
If you use an Android device (i.e. a phone or tablet), you can opt-in to receive notifications in the event of an emergency. These alerts are a special push notification classification available on Android devices that plays a sound and sends alarm notifications, even if your Android device is muted or in Do Not Disturb mode.
Important: This feature is only available for Android devices that are on Android 8.0 or above and running the TELUS SmartHome app version 4.15 or above.
Types of alerts that bypass Do Not Disturb mode
Override Do Not Disturb alert notifications are sent for the following events:
- Alarm
- Fire alarm
- Auxiliary panic
- Police panic
- Carbon monoxide
- Fire panic
- Flood extreme temp alarm
- Keypad tamper alarm
- Tamper alarm
- Water alarm
- Entry delay trouble
- Suspected entry delay alarm
- Suspected alarm
- Receiver jammed alarm
Steps to enable Override Do Not Disturb mode
You can configure Override Do Not Disturb mode using the TELUS SmartHome app by following these instructions:
- Select Notifications in the SmartHome app menu
- Make sure Push Notifications and Alarm Events are turned on
- Towards the top of the notifications setting screen, select Override Do Not Disturb mode and switch to Enabled
