Learn how to use your ADC 847 camera as well as how to maximize security using analytics and other features.
What is Smart View and how can I view continuously recorded video using Smart View?
Stream footage is recorded using a Stream Video Recorder (SVR), SD card or an Onboard Recording rule at any time using Smart View. Playback of continuously recorded video is available using the customer website or customer app using Smart View.
To access Smart View using the customer website
:- Log into the.customer website
- ClickVideo.
- ClickOnboard 24/7 TimelineorSVR Timeline.
- Using the video device drop-down menu, select the desired device to playback.
Click play button to stream the device's recorded video.
To access Smart View using the customer app
:- Log into the customer app.
- TapVideo.
- TapLive.
- Tap on the desired camera to view SVR/CSVR/Onboard Recording footage.
How to download a saved video from the Onboard Recordings
- Log in to the customer website.
- ClickVideo.
- ClickOnboard Recordings.
- Using the camera selection drop-down menu, select the desired device.
- Click the download icon.
- In theDownload Videopop-up window, choose the day, start time and a duration of up to 15 minutes.
- ClickDownload.
- ClickOK.
The requested clip will begin downloading on your computer.
How to create an Onboarding Recording schedule
To create an Onboard Recording rule using the customer app, follow the steps below:
- Make sure that the SD card is inserted into the camera.
- Log in to the customer app.
- TapVideo.
- Tap theSettingsgear icon.
- TapRecording Rules.
- TapLocal.
- TapAdd.
- TapOnboardif there are multiple options to choose from.
- Using theRecord from this cameradrop-down menu, select the desired device.
- Using theRecording qualityslider, select the desired quality.
- InTime Frame, click to select eitherAt all timesorOnly during the following times. If you selectOnly during the following times
- For additional configuration options, selectAdvanced Options. To limit the number of days that recordings are kept:
- TapSave.
Onboard Recording with Smart View
24/7 HD footage is recorded locally on the camera with a microSD card. You can view live and recorded video on the Alarm.com website and mobile app from anywhere using the SmartView video timeline to search for important events, such as a person detected or a door accessed and jump straight to the corresponding footage.
Recording days cannot be guaranteed and will vary widely depending on the amount of motion in the camera’s viewing scene. Below is a table of estimated recording days based on moderate motion for different recording quality settings and card capacities.
Important: These estimates should be used for reference only. The actual days of recording may vary due to the camera model, resolution settings, and the nature of the scenes being recorded.

How to factory reset an ADC 847 camera to its default settings
Steps to factory reset the ADC 847 camera:
- Press and holdRfor 15 seconds until the LED flashes red and green.
- Wait for the device to reboot.

What is camera calibration?
Camera calibration overview
Calibration, combined with video analytics best practices, provides cameras with an accurate view of each unique location where they're installed.
The calibration process itself is used to more thoroughly customize the video analytics performance by giving the camera context into where a person could enter, exit or move around within the field of view.
Calibration best practices
Verify that the person's entire body is in the field of view for each photo.
After taking each photo, take a few steps backward relative to the field of view instead of side-to-side.
Use a mobile device instead of the customer website to make it easier to move around and take photos.
Users can use the customer app or website to calibrate certain video devices for video analytics. The calibration process involves taking five still images of a person in different locations visible to the camera.
How do I calibrate the camera?
To calibrate a camera using the customer app, follow the steps below:
- Log in to the customer app.
- Tap the camera logo.
- TapSettings.
- Tap to select the video device you wish to calibrate.
- TapVideo.
- TapCalibrate Video Device.
- TapContinue.
- Verify that the person is in the camera's field of view. Then tapTake Photo.
- TapNext.
- Repeat the previous two steps for each photo, making sure the person moves a few steps further from the camera each time.
- After five photos are captured, tapSubmit.
- Once the calibration is complete, tapDone. The camera is now ready for aVideo Analyticsrule.
To calibrate a camera using the customer website, follow the steps below:
- Log in to the customer website.
- Click onVideo.
- On theVideobanner, clickSettings.
- Using theVideo Devicedrop-down menu, select the video device you wish to calibrate.

What is Video Analytics?
Video Analytics continuously scans a property and sends a notification when a person, vehicle or animal is identified. Advanced detection rules enhance perimeter security by sending alerts when someone is coming or going, or even loitering on the property.
With Video Analytics, enhanced notifications are sent with thumbnail images showing people, vehicles and animals. Advanced detection rules can also be used to draw virtual tripwires across driveways and virtual fenced-in zones for a property.
Email and text notifications can be sent whenever the following example events occur:
- A vehicle pulls into the driveway/parking lot or a person walks up to an entrance.
- A person loiters in a specific zone of a property.
- A person or vehicle is identified outside a business after-hours.
- A pet jumps up on the sofa or enters an off-limits flowerbed.
- A child leaves the yard or someone drives off at night.
Video Analytics can spot what's important, even if a lot is going on.

How do I add a Video Analytics rule?
To create a rule with Video Analytics using the customer website, follow the steps below:
- Log in to the customer website.
- ClickVideo.
- ClickRecording Rules.
- ClickAdd New Rule.
- Click to selectVideo Analytics.
- Set up the rule type (see instructions in theHow do I set up different rule types?section below).
- Select the camera scene (see instructions in theHow do I select a camera scene?section below).
- Configure the analytics rule (see instructions in theHow do I configure the Ground Zone and Tripwire rules (Video Analytics)?section below).
- Set up rules and notifications (see instructions in theHow do I set up rule scheduling and notifications??section below).
To create a rule with Video Analytics using the customer app, follow the steps below:
- Log in to the customer app.
- TapVideo.
- TapSettings.
- TapRecording Rules.
- TapAdd.
- TapVideo Analytics.
- Set up rule type (question 11).
- Select the camera scene (question 12).
- Configure the analytics rule (question 13).
- Set up rules and notifications (question 14).
How do I set up different rule types?
To select the rule type, follow the steps below:
- Once you have created the video analytics rule, select the desired camera.
- InSelect Type, select the rule type.
- If the camera hasVideo Motion Detection(VMD) recording rules set up, they must be deleted before setting up aVideo Analyticsrule. When prompted to automatically delete them, clickOKto continue. The VMD windows can be added back later when necessary.
- ClickNext.
How do I select a camera scene?
To select the camera scene, follow the steps below:
- InScenery, click to selectIndoorsorOutdoorsbased on where the camera is installed. The camera should be markedOutdoorsif it will be exposed to rain, snow, spider webs or moving trees. Set it toIndoorsif the camera is in a controlled outdoor environment (e.g. a screened-in porch).
- Use theMinimum Object Detection Sizeslider to adjust how small an object can be and still trigger a recording. It is recommended to keep this at its suggested value upon initial rule creation.Very Largecaptures the fewest recordings only of the largest objects, andVery Smallcaptures the most recordings including large and small objects.
- ClickNext.
How do I configure the Ground Zone and Tripwire rules (Video Analytics)?
Once the rule type and scene are selected, the
Video Analytics
rule can be configured to fit the customer's individual needs. To configure a
Ground Zone
rule, follow the steps below:Note
: Skip this section if Tripwire was chosen during rule type selection.- In theRule Namefield, enter a name for the recording rule.
- Click and drag the corners of the shape to cover only the ground where the target’s feet will be. To clear the current area of interest and restart, clickClear ground zoneto create a new area of interest with up to 28 points.
- Click and hold inside the shape to move the shape itself.
- Using theDuration Inside Area of Interestdrop-down menu, select the desired time an object needs to stay inside the Ground Zone to trigger a recording.
To configure a
Tripwire
rule, follow the steps below:Note
: Skip this section if Ground Zone was chosen during rule type selection.- In theRule Namefield, enter a name for the recording rule.
- Click and drag the Tripwire to cover only the ground where the target's feet cross. The arrow determines which direction the object must be moving to trigger a recording. To clear the current Tripwire and restart, clickClear Tripwire.
- Customize the direction of movement to be recorded:
- InDirection, clickSwitch directionsto switch the direction of the movement to capture.
- ClickBoth Directionsto record when an object crosses the Tripwire regardless of which direction it's moving.
How do I set up rule scheduling and notifications?
- Using theSet Minimum Delay Between Clipsdrop-down menu, select the desired time frame. This setting determines how long the camera must wait after beginning a clip to trigger another recording.
- InThe Rule will run..., selectAt all times,Only during the following timesorWhile on vacation. IfOnly during the following timesis selected:
- InExcept when..., select any available exceptions that turn the rule off regardless of the schedule. Options depending on the equipment include:
- InSend notification for clips containing..., select the types of clips that the user wants to be notified about. The camera records and uploads all motion it detects but only sends a notification to the user based on the selected notification options. You can send notification for clips containing:Person Animal Vehicle Other
- Select the desired notification recipients. It's recommended to use push notifications to a phone using the drop-down option to attach a thumbnail.
How do I ensure rule accuracy with the camera analytics?
Avoid drawing Tripwires or Ground Zones over objects that might move by themselves (e.g. trees, bushes or other objects that move from the wind).
Only draw the rule where the feet or wheels of an object should cross.
- Do not increase the size of the loiter zone or tripwire to cover the whole of the target.
- Do not include furniture, walls, trees or other structures in the rule/selection.
Bad ground zone example
:
Including the bush and the garage door will make it difficult to identify objects. In this case, reduce the size of the ground zone to only include the driveway.
Good ground zone example
:
This is a good example as it excludes the bush and garage door.
You can create up to three
Video Analytics
rules to capture separate areas of interest (e.g. a camera that monitors two entrances might need two tripwire rules, each one covering one of the entrances).Will the SD cards start recording automatically once they’re slotted in?
An
Onboard Recording Schedule
must be created for the camera in order for it to start recording. Automatically created Onboard Recording schedules
Onboard Recording schedules will be automatically created if the camera was installed within the last 12 hours and has a new SD card inserted. When the
24/7 Onboard Recording
schedule is created, the primary account holder will be notified by email. If the schedule is not created on the first attempt, make sure to:
- Verify the SD card is a supported model.
- Verify the SD card is brand new.
- Remove and reinsert the card within 12 hours of the camera installation to reinitiate the process.

: If the Onboard Recording schedule is not created automatically after these steps, you must manually create the rule.To create an
