Adding smart plugs to the SmartHome+ app

Plug in your Smart Plug into the desired outlet.

Log in to the TELUS SmartHome+ app on your mobile device. Don’t have the app or having trouble logging in? Click here to learn more.

In the SmartHome+ app, select the “+” sign at the top right-hand corner of either your Home tab or Devices tab

Select “Device” on the bottom sheet that appears

Select “Third-party devices” from the device category list

Select the appropriate brand of Smart Plug which you are adding (e.g. TP-Link)

Take a moment to acknowledge the Smart Energy tip provided by TELUS

Before continuing, the Smart Plug needs to be linked to its manufacturer’s mobile app by: a. Downloading the appropriate mobile application listed for the brand of Smart Plugs you are adding. b. Creating an account to gain access to the Smart Plugs’ manufacturer’s mobile app c. Setting up and connecting your device(s) on the manufacturer’s native mobile app, according to their provided instructions

Return to the SmartHome+ mobile app to select “Continue” on the manufacturer staging instructions screen

Enter the account credentials for the manufacturer’s native app that were created in step 8. b)

Allow a moment for the SmartHome+ app to load your device(s) from the account that was just linked

Your device(s) will soon appear in your SmartHome+ app’s Devices and Home tab view.

You haven’t completed the setup on the device manufacturer’s app. Before adding it to the SmartHome+ app, the device must first be installed and configured using the manufacturer’s home application. Refer to step 8 of the step-by-step guide shared on this page. a. For TP-Link Smart Plugs, be sure to select KP125M (under Matter Smart Plug) in the list of available plugs on the KASA app. KP125 (under HomeKit Smart Plug (Wi-Fi)) will not work.

The compatible device(s) from the third-party account you’re linking have already been linked to your SmartHome+ account. Refresh your Device list to confirm.

The device(s) from the third-party account you’re linking is not yet compatible with the SmartHome+ app. TELUS is continuously working to enhance the SmartHome+ ecosystem by adding new devices to our compatibility list. Stay tuned for updates as we strive towards this.

Touch the garbage bin icon next to the affected brand (TP-Link for smart plugs)

Confirm the prompt that appears

Return to tab to relaunch the Device add experience

Ensure the device is plugged in and lit up

The device(s) needs to have been added to the manufacturer’s app before it can be discovered.
