3G network retirement

We’re evolving our networks to deliver faster speeds, clearer calls, and improved reliability across Canada. As part of this upgrade, our 3G network will be retiring on March 1, 2027 nationally and on April 14, 2026 in Manitoba. We’re here to help you prepare and easily upgrade your device to ensure your service remains uninterrupted.

How the 3G shutdown affects your device

As we transition to faster, more reliable networks, after March 1st, 2027, all non-compatible 3G devices will lose the ability to make or receive calls, send texts, or use data. Most importantly, this means you will lose access to reach 911 from your phone.
We’re here to help you take action to keep connected on our improved network. First, start by checking your device compatibility to confirm your next steps.

Check device compatibility

To get started, use our online tool to check if your device is VoLTE-compatible.

Upgrade your 3G phone

If your phone is not compatible, to ensure you maintain your service and stay connected, you will need to upgrade to a new device.

Enable VoLTE on your phone

To ensure a seamless transition, you must enable VoLTE (Voice over LTE) in your phone’s cellular settings to continue making high-quality calls after 3G is retired.
