Sending and receiving iMessage over cellular

Apple Watch Series 4 on watchOS 7.0.0

iMessages can be sent between Apple devices such as the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac devices. iMessages may have some additional effects depending on your device such as text effects or Memojis.

  1. Note: If your phone is turned off or in airplane mode you will be unable to send or receive SMS, MMS or third-party notifications with Apple Watch. To send and receive iMessages on your Apple Watch, you must be signed into the same Apple ID on your iPhone and Apple Watch.

  2. Step 1 of 7:

    From the Home screen, tap Settings.

    Scroll to Messages.

    Step 2/7

  4. Step 3 of 7:

    Tap Messages.

    Step 3/7

  5. Step 4 of 7:

    Tap or slide the iMessage slider to the on position.

  6. Step 5 of 7:

    Tap Send & Receive.

    Step 5/7

  7. Step 6 of 7:

    Select the address that corresponds with your Apple ID under "YOU CAN RECEIVE IMESSAGES TO AND REPLY FROM".

    Note: This address must be checked and match with your Apple Watch to send and receive iMessages on your Apple Watch.

  8. Step 7 of 7:

    You've completed the steps!
