Set up TELUS email on your computer using Windows Live Mail

Access your TELUS email account through Windows Live Mail 2012

In the Gmail web interface


  1. Click on the nine-dot menu and select Account
  2. Select Security on the left hand side
  3. Scroll down to “Less secure app access” and select Turn on access
  4. Toggle “Allow less secure apps switch” to On
  5. Open your email account in a browser by visiting mail.google.com/a/telus.net
  6. Left-click on the gear icon in the upper right corner and select See all settings
  7. From the top menu, select Forwarding and POP/IMAP

To use IMAP (recommended method):

  1. In that menu under IMAP access, select Enable IMAP
  2. Select Save changes

In Windows Live Mail 2012


Before you begin, download and install Windows Essentials 2012 on your computer if you have not done so already. To learn more, visit the Microsoft website.

  1. Launch Windows Live Mail
  2. From the top taskbar, select Accounts
  3. Select Email. The Add your email accounts window appears
  4. Complete the required information as follows:
    • Email address: Your TELUS email address. For example, john.doe@telus.net
    • Password: Your TELUS email password
      Note: If you’ve forgotten your telus.net email password and are a residential customer, please visit telus.com/reset. For Business customers please visit telus.com/BusinessEmail.
    • Check Remember this password
    • Display name for your sent messages: The name you would like recipients to receive
    • Check Manually configure server settings
  5. When you're finished, select Next. The configure server settings screen is displayed
  6. Complete the required information as follows:
    • Incoming server information:
      • Server type: Select IMAP
      • Server address: imap.gmail.com
      • Port: 993
      • Verify Requires a secure connection (SSL) is checked
      • Authenticate using: Clear text
      • Logon user name: Your TELUS email username
    • Outgoing server information:
      • Server address: smtp.gmail.com
      • Port: 465
      • Verify the Requires a secure connection (SSL) box is checked
      • Verify Requires authentication is checked
  7. When you're finished, select Next
  8. Select Finish

Your TELUS email account is set up for use with Windows Live Mail.
