Set up TELUS email on your computer using Outlook 2016

In the Gmail web interface


  1. Click on the nine-dot menu and select Account
  2. Select Security on the left-hand side
  3. Scroll down to “Less secure app access” and select Turn on access
  4. Toggle “Allow less secure apps switch” to On
  5. Left-click on the gear icon in the upper right corner and select See all settings
  6. From the top menu, select Forwarding and POP/IMAP
  7. To use IMAP (recommended method):
    1. In the menu under IMAP access, select Enable IMAP
    2. Select Save changes

In Outlook 2016


  1. From your desktop, select Start
  2. From the Start menu, select Microsoft Office Outlook 2016
  3. From the top taskbar, select File
  4. From the left panel, select Info
  5. Select +Add account
  6. The email address window is displayed. Select Advanced options. Then ensure the checkbox has a checkmark for Let me set up my account manually
  7. Select Connect
  8. Select the Google icon
  9. Next window asks for Password to be entered
  10. Select Connect
  11. You will get a "We're getting things ready" window that prompts you to Enter your user name and password for the following server
  12. It is expected to see pop-up windows before getting a "Something went wrong" screen. At that point, select Change account settings
  13. Type the following information:
    • Incoming mail server: imap.gmail.com
    • Encryption method: SSL/TLS
    • Port: 993
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com
    • Port: 465
    • Encryption method: SSL/TLS
    • Ensure checkbox has a checkmark for My outgoing (SMTP) server requires authentication and Use same settings as my incoming mail server
  14. Password: Your password
  15. Select Connect
  16. Select Finish
