Preparing for trade-in or returning your Bring-It-Back™ device
Before you trade-in or return your Bring-It-Back™ device, you'll want to prepare it so your account and personal information are protected.
Android devices
Step 1: Backup your device
Before you switch to a new device, you should make sure your information is safely backed up. Depending on your device, follow these steps:
Backup to Google (all Android devices):
- Open your phone's Settings app
- Tap Backup and restore. If these steps don't match your phone's settings, try searching your settings app for backup
- If off, turn on Back up my data under the Google account section
- Tap Back up now

Backup to Samsung (Samsung devices only)
- Open your phone's Settings app
- Tap Backup and restore. If these steps don't match your phone's settings, try searching your settings app for backup
- Tap Back up data under the Samsung account section
- Tap Back up
Step 2: Deactivate “Reactivation Lock”
If you have a Samsung device with “Reactivation Lock” switched on, you must switch this feature off before trading in your phone.
Follow the instructions for your device type below.
- Open your phone's Settings app
- Navigate to Security to find Reactivation Lock. Ensure there is no green check mark
Step 3: Disable TELUS services on your device
To disable TELUS services on your device and protect your TELUS account, all you need to do is remove your TELUS SIM card from the device you intend to trade-in. In most cases, your old SIM card will work with your new phone.

Step 4: Remove your memory card
Remember to remove your memory card (micro-SD) from your device if it has one. Memory cards are typically black in colour and about half the size of a SIM card.

Step 5: Reset your device to its original factory settings
Protect your privacy and reset your device to its original factory settings. Resetting your device deletes your ringtones, contacts, pictures, messages and other downloaded content.
Important: Be certain you have successfully backed up your data or transferred it to your new device before following these steps. The following steps cannot be undone as they will reset your device and erase all your data from it.
To reset your device to its original factory settings:
Android
- Open your phone's Settings app
- Select Privacy
- Select Factory data reset
- Place a check mark next to Format USB storage if you would like to wipe your Micro SD card while resetting your device
- Tap Reset phone
- Tap Erase everything
Samsung
- Open your phone's Settings app
- Navigate to General management and select Reset, then tap Factory data reset
- Enter the Samsung account password
- Tap Delete all and the device will reboot
Step 6: Set up your new device
To set up your new phone, all you need to do to start is to choose your device type.
Apple devices
Step 1: Backup your device
Before you switch to a new device, you should make sure your information is safely backed up by following these steps:
Backup to iCloud
- From the Home screen, tap Settings
- From the Settings menu, select [your name] at the top
- Tap iCloud, then iCloud Backup
- If off, turn on iCloud Backup
- To perform a manual backup, tap Back up now

Step 2: Deactivate “Find My iPhone”
If you have “Find My iPhone” switched on, you must switch this feature off before trading in your phone.
- From the Home screen, tap Settings
- From the Settings menu, select [your name] at the top
- Tap Find My. If it is turned on, turn it off
- Select OK on the confirmation screen
- Enter your Apple ID password and then select Turn off
- A confirmation screen will confirm that "Find My iPhone has been turned off."
Step 3: Disable TELUS services on your device
