About this feature
1. What content is filtered when the adult content feature is turned on for a profile?
Websites categorized as “adult” or “rated R” will be blocked from being accessed through an internet browser for devices in the profile. Websites that fall under these categories include nudity, pornography, adult content, violence, drug and other mature themes.
2. When will websites be blocked?
When the feature is enabled, websites will be blocked when attempting to access through the internet browser of a device connected to your home network. Adult and rated R content will not be blocked when connected to a cellular network or Wi-Fi network that is not your home network.
Adult and rated R content will be blocked almost immediately after the feature is turned on in the My Wi-Fi App. Web pages that were previously viewed may be cached and won’t be blocked until that cache expires.
If the device on your network is using a VPN, adult and rated R content will not be blocked.
3. Will all adult and rated R websites be blocked?
It is not guaranteed that all adult and rated R websites will be blocked. Furthermore, if a website is not categorized as an adult or rated R website, but sections of that website contain explicit content, it may not be blocked.
4. Can I edit the websites that are blocked by the features?
This is currently not available. To access a blocked website, you will need to turn off adult content in the My Wi-Fi App.
Edit your device name
It can be difficult to pause devices individually when their names are generic.
You can change the name of devices using the TELUS My Wi-Fi app, making it easier than ever to pause the correct devices whenever you want.
Note: This will only change how the device’s name appears in the app. It will not affect the device.
To edit a device name:
- Open the TELUS My Wi-Fi app
- Navigate to the Devices tab
- Select the device whose name you want to change
- Select the Edit button at the top right
- Enter the new name
- When you are done, select Save

About this feature:
1. What type of threats get blocked?
TELUS Network Security protects you from:
- Malicious web content when browsing
- Unauthorized access attempts from outside your network
- Abnormal behaviour from devices on your network potentially trying to communicate with a bad IP or support an attack on another network
2. When will threats be blocked?
Once a threat is detected, TELUS Network Security will block the threat immediately. Threats will show in the Network Security sections of the My Wi-Fi App. For unauthorized access attempts and abnormal behaviour threats, you will be able to allow the threat in the My Wi-Fi App. For malicious web content threats, if the website is an HTTP website the device will be presented with a warning page on its browser and the user can choose to proceed to the website or not.
3. What devices will be protected?
All devices connected to your home network will be protected. This includes, but is not limited to, all iOS and Android devices, any PCs or Macs, gaming consoles and smart devices, such as smart TVs and smart thermostats. Devices will no longer be protected when they leave your home network, connect to a mobile network or connect to a public network.
4. What is the difference between TELUS Online Security and TELUS Network Security?
TELUS Online Security provides threat protection to PCs, Macs and iOS and Android mobile devices while in and out of home. TELUS Network Security provides coverage to all devices connected to the home networks. This includes smart devices which can’t run antivirus software. For the best experience and coverage, customers should use TELUS Online Security and TELUS Network Security.
5. How many threats will my network experience?
The numbers of threats on your network depends on the devices on your network and browsing habits, among other things. While there is no normal number of threats to expect, if you are seeing no threats, it's okay. TELUS Network Security is still working.
6. What if I don’t recognize the website that was flagged as malicious web content?
TELUS Network Security blocks entire websites as well as sections of websites that might be malicious. A malicious section of a website could be an advertisement or a plugin to the website. If you don’t recognize the website listed in the My Wi-Fi App then it would have been a section of a website you were browsing that was blocked and the URL of that section of the website is highlighted.
