Comprehensive network upgrade provides gigabit internet speeds to homes, business and public services and enhances wireless coverage throughout the region

Vancouver, B.C. – TELUS is thrilled to announce the successful completion of its PureFibre network project in Lac La Biche and Plamondon in Lac La Biche County, Alberta, marking a significant milestone in providing state-of-the-art connectivity to rural communities. This ambitious project has made TELUS PureFibre services available to over 1,400 homes and businesses with gigabit internet speeds while enhancing cellular coverage across the region.
"With the completion of the TELUS PureFibre network, residents and businesses in Lac La Biche and Plamondon can now enjoy the revolutionary fast and most reliable internet service available, which is essential for today’s digital economy," said Shazia Zeb Sobani, Vice-president of Customer Network Planning at TELUS. "This significant investment not only demonstrates our commitment to bridging digital divides but also ensures that all members of the community have the digital tools necessary for success in the modern world."
Started in 2021, the Lac La Biche and Plamondon project was completed in partnership with the local government in late 2022. Earlier this year, TELUS representatives engaged with the community to educate and empower individuals through
TELUS Wise
workshops – a program dedicated to enhancing digital literacy and safety for individuals of all ages. These workshops were delivered in partnership with Lac La Biche County Family Community & Support Services, reaching out to young mothers and seniors.
"Thanks to Lac La Biche County investing in fibre, our community now has infrastructure that not only meets current needs but also positions us for future growth. State-of-the-art connectivity like TELUS PureFibre means that Lac La Biche County can attract new entrepreneurs and investment, allowing us to sell ourselves as a uniquely beautiful and quiet rural community with all the amenities of a larger centre,” said Mayor Paul Reutov of Lac La Biche County. “The benefits of this project – from improved healthcare and education access to enhanced business capabilities – will be felt across the County for generations to come."
The TELUS PureFibre network has helped transform Lac La Biche County, providing families and businesses with unparalleled internet speed and reliability, essential for modern digital demands and entertainment. This enhanced connectivity has given local businesses a competitive edge to operate globally from a rural setting. Significant improvements have been made in healthcare and education through innovative service delivery, such as cloud computing, telemedicine, and high-speed video connections for remote learning.
These advancements also support environmental sustainability by facilitating telecommuting and reducing carbon footprints. Additionally, the PureFibre network facilitates innovative agricultural technologies and smart city applications, providing a backbone for economic development and environmental sustainability. TELUS also upgraded the existing network towers with advanced LTE and 5G technologies, extending high-speed wireless coverage to more areas of the County. This means better phone and internet service for residents, supporting everything from daily communications to cloud-based applications and smart city solutions.
As Lac La Biche County embraces this new era of connectivity, TELUS continues to invest in communities across Alberta, ensuring that every citizen can benefit from the best network technology available anywhere in the world. This investment builds upon TELUS’ continued commitment to bring world-class connectivity to communities across the province. More recently,
TELUS announced an investment of more than $16 billion

These investments are critical to connecting Albertans with the people, resources and information that enrich their lives and underscores TELUS’ unwavering commitment to advancing technology and connectivity nationwide.
