Frequently asked questions
A psychology assessment is a specialized service provided by registered psychologists to understand your psychological health, diagnose mental health and emotional issues, and provide recommendations to help you achieve the best possible mental wellbeing.
Counsellors at TELUS Health have master’s degrees and are registered with a clinical regulator. Clinical registration includes designations such as Registered Clinical Counsellor, Registered Social Worker, and Canadian Certified Counsellor. Counsellors provide a wide range of therapeutic support for mental health and emotional wellbeing. They do not provide psychological assessment and diagnosis.
Clinical psychologists are healthcare professionals who specialize in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental illness, emotional disorders, and behavioural problems. Their toolkit includes standardized assessments, psychological tests, and psychotherapy. Registered Psychologist (R.Psych) is a designation that, in most cases, indicates a minimum of a doctoral degree in psychology. All TELUS Health Clinical psychologists are R.Psych/C.Psych designated.
The clinical psychology assessment includes both virtual consult time with the psychologist, as well as time to review your submitted assessment forms, histories and the formal assessment report.
The assessment typically includes a diagnosis, a treatment plan, and a report that can be used for school, work, and insurance purposes.
Our psychologists can assess clients with a range of concerns, including anxiety, bipolar, depression, trauma, PTSD, ADHD, and personality disorders (e.g. borderline personality disorder).
You can view the biography of our psychologists in the app to see the full range of assessments they can provide.
To get started, download the TELUS Health MyCare™ app and book an appointment, then select “Psychology assessment - Initial Evaluation” on the appointment screen. The Initial Evaluation is a 25 minute virtual appointment that gives you an opportunity to learn more about the psychologist’s area of expertise, and provide an overview of your concerns to see if a psychology assessment is right for you.
- Once you and the psychologist mutually decide to move forward with the selected assessment package, the psychologist will send you an invite that will enable you to book your first assessment appointment through the TELUS Health MyCare app. An assessment package involves multiple appointments and you will be charged for your full assessment package with your initial appointment. There will be no charge for the subsequent appointments related to the assessment.
- The cost of the Initial Evaluation is $120. The cost of the assessment package ranges from $940 to $2468 (inclusive of taxes and fees). The package chosen varies by situation and is determined for you in your initial 25 minute psychologist consultation.
- Psychology services are often covered by extended health benefits.
- You’ll get an in-app receipt so you can file a claim with your extended health insurance plan.
You will receive an email from our clinical support team outlining the assessment forms that you will need to complete.

Psychologists focus squarely on non-medication treatment options. But in case medications are recommended, they would recommend a follow up with a family physician, nurse practitioner, or psychiatrist to have these prescribed.
TELUS Health MyCare psychology services are currently available only in British Columbia, and Ontario. You can book appointments through the TELUS Health MyCare app.
