Andriana Majarian, COO of Agrian, is based in Central California. She shares what brought her to agriculture and what inspires her to help customers grow food more safely and sustainably.

Tell us about yourself? I've worked at Agrian for 13 years. Outside of work, I work out at least six days a week – it's my only hobby that I consistently do. It helps me manage stress and keeps me positive.
What is your role at TELUS Agriculture? Simply put, I help people grow food safely. As Agrian's COO, most of my day-to-day functions haven't changed too much since we joined TELUS Agriculture aside from being on a few more calls than previously.
What's a typical work day like for you? I typically wake up at 5:30 am to work out for an hour and then begin my day of meetings. I usually speak to the team leads of client success, finance, marketing and regulatory daily, with client meetings sprinkled throughout the day.
What first sparked your interest in agriculture and food? Before Agrian, I did not work in agriculture and was attracted to it by the technology. I like the idea of contributing to a safer, more efficient and sustainable food supply.
What training prepared you for your role? Because Agrian was a startup, I've literally done every job at Agrian except computer programming. I had the pleasure of building the business with a small team of people. In that process, I've learned a lot of great and sometimes painful lessons. All of that experience contributed to what I do today at Agrian.
What inspires you in your career? I have modeled my management style after people I've admired in the workplace. I still learn so much from the people I work with today. Also, my mom owned her own business and she demonstrated the best work ethic and determination. I'm grateful that she was such a tremendous role model.
What is the biggest misconception about agriculture and food? The misconception about growing food is long and inaccurate. Our industry across the globe is continually focused on how to keep our food supply safe and secure. I spend my time thinking about ways technology can make it even more efficient and engaging in conversations with people wanting to learn more about our industry.
What's a common question you get from customers? Typically feature requests which is always a great way to drill down into the pain points they may be experiencing. It's always educational and can lead to great conversations about ways we can help.
What are you most excited about at TELUS Agriculture? I'm excited about bringing all of these technology solutions together and providing a solution from field to fork. No one in ag tech is doing what TELUS Agriculture is doing and it's exciting to be part of it.
What's something you saw recently that made you smile? My son recently got accepted to college. The entire family is super excited for him.
What's your favorite food? I love to bake, especially during the holidays. I haven't met a cookie I don't like (hence why I work out regularly).
