I don’t have provincial health insurance. Can I still see a doctor, and what does it cost?

What qualifications do the practitioners have?

DOCTORS

Doctors with TELUS Health MyCare are experienced clinical professionals, qualified to practice Family Medicine in their province. They are registered with all relevant professional bodies, such as the College of Family Physicians of Canada.

MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELLORS

Counsellors with TELUS Health MyCare have a minimum masters level education and are highly experienced. All hold at least one of these certifications:

Registered Social Worker (RSW) is a designation available to individuals with an accredited social work degree. RSWs adhere to a professional standard of practice that is regulated by the provincial College of Social Workers.
Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) is a Canada-wide counselling designation that verifies a counsellor to be master's level and has undergone a specific number of supervised clinical hours.
Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) is a Canada-wide counselling designation similar to an RCC. Canadian Certified Counsellors are certified through the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. The CCPA is a voluntary professional organization that provides guidelines and clinical standards.

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGISTS

Clinical psychologists are healthcare professionals who specialize in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental illness, emotional disorders, and behavioral problems. A clinical psychologist’s toolkit includes standardized assessments, psychological tests, and psychotherapy. Registered Psychologist (R.Psych) is a designation that, in most cases, indicates a minimum of a doctoral degree in psychology. All TELUS Health Clinical psychologists are R.Psych designated.

DIETITIANS

Dietitians with TELUS Health MyCare are registered with the regulatory body in their province. They have at least a bachelors of science degree, and have completed rigorous on-the-job training.

How do I get reimbursed for psychologist, counselling or dietitians’ consultations?

After your session, you’ll get an in-app receipt. If you have an extended health plan that covers dietitians’ or mental health counselling services, you can file a claim by submitting your receipt to your extended health care plan.

To download your receipt:

Open the app > Go to the Appointments tab > Select the appropriate appointment > Tap on Receipt > Tap the download icon in the top right corner.

Doctor consultations are available at no cost for AB, BC, SK & ON residents who are covered under their respective provincial insurance plan. For ON, OHIP is currently providing access to telehealth, but this may be subject to change. The application uses internet data (Wi-Fi or mobile), overage charges may apply with your respective provider.
Counselling appointments require additional payment of $120 plus applicable taxes. Users under employer-sponsored solutions will not pay a fee for the service. Any payments for appointments must be paid using a valid payment card. After the appointment, a receipt will be provided in the application to claim this expense with your benefit provider if applicable.
Users must be 16 years or older to access Registered Dietitian appointments. Dietitian appointments require payment of $120 for initial appointments and $70 for follow-up appointments, inclusive of applicable taxes. Users under some employer-sponsored solutions will not pay a fee for the service. Users under other employer-sponsored solutions will be required to pay $120 for initial appointment and $70 for follow-up appointments, inclusive of applicable taxes, per appointment. Any payments for appointments must be paid using a valid credit card. An in-app receipt will be provided for you to claim for reimbursement if applicable.
TELUS Health MyCare psychology services are currently available only in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario.
You’ll get an in-app receipt so you can file a claim with your extended health insurance plan.
For non-urgent care only. Healthcare provided during travels to the U.S. is provided by an independent third-party who provides access to licensed U.S. health care professionals only.
