TELUS’ partnership with the Moose Hide Campaign is shaping TELUS’ culture for good, creating an informed company culture that is safe, inclusive and culturally responsive.

Since 2022, TELUS has been an active supporter and sponsor of the Indigenous-led Moose Hide Campaign, whose mission is to end gender-based violence. This commitment is rooted in our reconciliation action plan, launched in 2021 and guided by Indigenous frameworks of reconciliation, including Reclaiming Power and Place: The Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and the corresponding 231 Calls for Justice.

As we enter our third year of our partnership with the Moose Hide Campaign team, we are proud to share insights into how this relationship is changing the TELUS community for good.

Customers care

In 2023, over 8,300 pins were given to customers at 218 stores across nine provinces. According to Moose Hide Campaign statistics which suggests that each pin will lead to five conversations, this translates to 41,500 new conversations that will help end violence towards women, girls and gender-diverse people.

TELUS retail team members have offered pins in stores in the weeks leading up to campaign day over the last two years, and the response from TELUS customers is inspiring.

Not only do TELUS customers understand that the issue of gender-based violence needs to be addressed, but they are also willing to be part of that change by wearing a pin in support of the grassroots movement to make their communities safer.

Inviting our customers to participate in this movement is impactful - we are learning more about what matters to them while also demonstrating, through this partnership and programs like Mobility for Good for Indigenous Women at Risk, that we understand our corporate responsibility to take action.

Creating a more inclusive workplace

The Moose Hide Campaign movement empowers leaders and team members to create space for healthy relationships and to advocate for a more inclusive workplace and community.

“As the Executive Sponsor of Eagles, the employee resource group for Indigenous identifying team members and allies, it is important to me that our organization continues to become more inclusive and supportive of the unique needs of Eagles members through authentic actions and programs. The Moose Hide Campaign partnership helps us acknowledge the truth about the intergenerational patterns of gender-based violence while guiding us with practical ways to make our workplaces and communities a safer place for all,” Tony Geheran, Chief Operations Officer.

Starting from the top-down, TELUS leaders continue to share with their teams through conversation and by example why healthy masculinity and relationships nurtured by empathy are critical to breaking the cycles and thought patterns that perpetuate violence.

Becoming a partner of the Moose Hide Campaign is an opportunity to show TELUS employees in the communities where we live and work that we are committed to shifting the way we think, speak and act to protect the human right of personal safety.

This year of our partnership will be filled with many more important conversations that encourage learning and inspire solidarity with survivors and people at risk of violence.
