Lending a hand in the Philippines
In 2012, TELUS stepped up to contribute to disaster relief in the Philippines.
On July 28, 2012, disaster struck when Typhoon Saola hit the Philippines, resulting in high tides, storm surges and devastating flooding over a large portion of the country. The death toll exceeded 50 and thousands struggled in the wake of the disaster.
TELUS partnered with the Canadian Red Cross to enable our customers to join the global relief efforts in the Philippines through a text-to-donate program – more than $13,000 was donated to various campaigns.
We supported our team members in the Phillipines with free transportation, temporary shelter, free meals for themselves and their families and pay advances to help with emergency expenses.
TELUS team members made personal donations to those in need through our internal employee giving program, which TELUS matched.
