A year of Growth: Piikani First Nation & TELUS celebrate partnership video and nearly 1 million trees
Sep 3, 2025
We're thrilled to provide an update on the Supsūpii•po’omaaksin (In the spirit of planting seeds) project, building on our
initial 2024 announcement
. We're excited to share a new video that beautifully highlights the cultural significance of our partnership with Piikani First Nation. The Náápi Otsíthaatan (Oldman River) watershed is a sacred place for Blackfoot Peoples, where trees like cottonwoods and willows are essential for sustenance, lodging and ceremonies. We are incredibly proud that our ambitious reforestation efforts have not only continued but significantly expanded. Building on our initial target of planting 350,000 trees, we are now committed to planting nearly 1 million trees by the end of 2025 with the Piikani Lands Department.
This initiative, rooted in Indigenous ecological knowledge and led by Piikani, ensures future generations have access to this vital ecosystem. As Piikani Lands Manager Noreen Plain Eagle states, “Our partnership to restore the natural abundance of our traditional river valley is creating employment, improving sustainability and protecting this land for our children and future generations”.
