Using TELUS email on an alternative email application
Third-party email application support
To have the best experience with TELUS email powered by Google, TELUS recommends that everyone use the web browser version of Gmail at email.telus.net or using the Gmail app on a mobile device. This ensures you have the latest updates, access to all the new features and benefits and there are no additional costs.
If you want to use an alternative email app or client to access your TELUS email, you can use the details in this article to configure such apps or clients. If you require assistance or need additional support, please contact the provider of your alternative application.
Most people will use email on multiple devices, such as smartphones or tablets and laptops. To protect your account, you should use applications that are built with OAuth or Open Authentication. OAuth will protect your account against hackers and hijacking attempts.
Here are some examples of OAuth applications:
Device and operating system | Apps or programs that use OAuth |
---|---|
iPhones & iPads running iOS 9.0 and above | - Apple Mail - Gmail app |
Android devices running Lollipop/5.0 or above | - Gmail app |
Mac computer running OS 10.11/El Capitan or above | - Apple Mail |
PC running Windows 10 | - Windows Mail |
Email app not listed? You can find out if your email app supports OAuth by trying to set up a new email account. Your app may offer you a list of email providers that includes Google. If it does, your email app supports OAuth. Be sure to select Google as your provider and use your TELUS email account details.
If your application is not listed above, you can use the settings below to set up your application.
You can use the following settings in your application to use IMAP Access:

Open your email account in a browser by visiting email.telus.net
Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner and select See all settings
From the top menu, select Forwarding and POP/IMAP

Over time, applications will become out of date and become vulnerable for hacking, hijacking or malicious attacks. To protect your email, it is recommended that you upgrade to software applications that are current and have the latest software updates installed.
Note: In 2021, less secure applications support will be disabled and you will need to use an application that supports OAuth. Please ensure you have upgraded your email application to a compatible application by 2021. However, if you require the use of an older application, you can use these steps below to grant access to your Mail account for “Less secure applications”:
Open your email account in a browser by visiting email.telus.net
Go to the 9 dot menu and select Account
Select Security on the left-hand side
Scroll down to “Less secure app access” and select Turn on access
Toggle “Allow less secure apps switch” to On
You have now enabled Less secure application access for your account. If you no longer require this enabled in the future, please use the steps above to change the setting to Off.
