iMessage spam reporting
Report and identify iMessage spam
Differences between iMessage and SMS messages
The key difference between an iMessage and SMS message is the colour of the text. An iMessage text appears in a blue bubble, and an SMS text message appears in a green bubble.
If a suspicious message appears in green, you may need to report a spam message, rather than an iMessage.
Report spam or junk in the Messages app
You can report iMessages that look like spam or junk from the Messages app.
If you get an iMessage from someone who's not saved in your contacts, you'll see a message stating that the sender is not in you contact list, and you'll have the option to Report junk.
Select the Report junk link to forward the sender's information and the message to Apple.
Email Apple to report spam or junk
If you don't have iOS 8.3 or later, you can send an email to imessage.spam@apple.com with this information:
- A screenshot of the message. Learn how to take a screenshot on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or Mac
- The email address or phone number that sent the iMessage
- The date and time that you got the iMessage
