TELUS investing $6.5 million to bring fibre optic technology to La Matapédia
TELUS is deploying its PureFibre network in 14 rural communities
Amqui, Quebec – TELUS announced today an investment of $6.5 million to bring its PureFibre network to 14 communities in La Matapédia RCM (Regional community municipalities) and to upgrade its wireless network to the latest LTE technology. This investment includes a financial contribution of $1 million from the federal Connect to Innovate and provincial Québec branché programs. With this ambitious project, TELUS is literally building a bridge to the future for residents, businesses, and service providers, giving them the tools to innovate locally, compete globally and deliver better health, education and social outcomes.

It enables local businesses to seize the opportunities of the digital age, and will support the increasingly connected future generations.”
TELUS has already begun deploying its PureFibre network in La Matapédia and the technology is already available in Albertville, Sainte-Florence and Sainte-Marguerite-Marie. The work will continue through the summer with further investments next year. By the end of 2020, 99 percent of local families and businesses will enjoy a direct access to TELUS fiber-to-the-home.
The 14 communities that will benefit from TELUS fibre-to-the-home investments in 2019 are Albertville, Amqui, Causapscal, Lac-au-Saumon, Routhierville, Saint-Alexandre-des-Lacs, Saint-Cléophas, Saint-Damase, Sainte-Florence, Sainte-Irène, Sainte-Marguerite-Marie, Saint-Moïse, Saint-Noël and Sayabec. This is in addition to the communities of Saint-Léon-le-Grand and Val-Brillant, which have had access to the PureFibre network since 2015. TELUS is also enhancing the speed and capacity of its wireless network in L’Ascension-de-Patapédia, Saint-Alexis-de-Matapédia and Saint-François-d’Assise.

Bridging the digital divide with technology and giving
Between 2013 and 2021, TELUS will have invested more than $300 million to expand its PureFibre network in the eastern part of Quebec with $72 million in support from the federal and provincial governments. Within the next two years, the company plans to offer direct fibre access to 93 percent of Greater Quebec City and Eastern Quebec residents. Nationwide, TELUS has invested over $175 billion in its infrastructure and operations since 2000 and plans to add approximately $40 billion in the next three years, for a total of $215 billion.
Winner of the 2018 Mercure prize for “Engagement within the Investors Group”, TELUS is committed to giving, and to lending a helping hand to charities in Eastern Quebec. In the past five years, TELUS has donated nearly $1.75 million to local charities including the Maison des jeunes de Causapscal, the CSSS de la Matapédia and Les Grands Amis de la Vallée.
