34,000 TELUS volunteers will give where they live in 13th annual TELUS Days of Giving

After volunteering one million hours in 2017, TELUS employees plan to do it again in 2018

Vancouver – TELUS’ 13th annual TELUS Days of Giving kicks off today where more than 34,000 TELUS team members, retirees, family and friends will volunteer at 2,000 activities this year to help create healthier, stronger and more sustainable communities across Canada and around the world. Volunteer activities include shoreline cleanups, sorting food at food banks, reading to young students, donating blood, refurbishing shelters and planting trees. Through TELUS Days of Giving, the company hopes to inspire Canadians to give back and share their acts of kindness on social media with the hashtag #GiveWhereWeLive.

TELUS International team members will also proudly participate in volunteer activities across nine countries, including building homes in Romania, constructing a health clinic in Guatemala, developing a youth centre in El Salvador, planting gardens in Bulgaria and renovating schools in the Philippines.

“TELUS Days of Giving is an authentic representation of our team members’ devotion to giving back,” said Jill Schnarr, TELUS Vice-President of Corporate Citizenship. “Our team members and retirees are making positive social impacts in our local communities year round. We are proud of their compassionate efforts to give where they live. Collectively, we are creating remarkable social change to achieve a greener earth, healthier citizens, connected youth, and ultimately stronger communities.”

Last year, TELUS Days of Giving brought together more than 32,000 volunteers giving thousands of families access to healthy food, providing 13,000 students with backpacks full of school supplies, and making an impact on our nation’s green spaces through garbage collection and tree planting activities.

Driven by the giving philosophy We Give Where We Live, TELUS and its team members and retirees have contributed more than $525 million and volunteered 8.7 million hours in support of Canadian charities and grassroots organizations since 2000. In 2017 alone, the TELUS team volunteered a remarkable one million hours in celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday.
