Martha Hall Findlay is the Director of the School of Public Policy and Palmer Chair at the University of Calgary. Having been a lawyer, senior business executive and former Member of Parliament, she has held leadership positions in both the private and public sector in a career spanning over three decades.
Most recently, Martha served as Chief Sustainability Officer and Chief Climate Officer for Suncor Energy, and before that was president and CEO of the Canada West Foundation. Earlier in her career, she served as Corporate Counsel at Bell Mobility and General Counsel and then General Manager at Mobility Canada. Her commitment to fostering international trade and business relations is evident from her current roles on the Deputy Minister of International Trade's Trade Expert Advisory Council and her involvement in the Asia Business Leaders Advisory Council. Martha's dedication to fostering cross-cultural cooperation is further highlighted by her membership in the Canada-Korea Forum. Her strategic insights have been valued on several non-profit boards and she is a member of the Canada-US Law Institute Executive Committee.
Martha's leadership and impactful work in environmental stewardship and climate action has been recognized through accolades such as the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal from the Government of Alberta, the ‘Clean50award recognizing her as one of Canada's leading figures in sustainability, and the Canadian Climate Champion award by the British High Commission and the Canada Climate Law Initiative.
Martha holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School at York.
