A one-of-a-kind program
“If you want to build a broad, versatile skillset and specialize in the technologies of the future, the GTLP program is for you.”
Meet our current and past grads
Our current and past program participants have built amazing careers at TELUS in technology and leadership roles:
The GTLP has been nothing but amazing for my career and personal development at TELUS. Coming out of school, we can all relate to that feeling of being a little lost, and that’s perfectly normal! One of the great things about this program is that you’ll get paired up with mentors from various parts of the organization who will help you every step of the way through the early stages of your career. Being in the GTLP has allowed me to gain perspective on many different roles, as well as a better understanding of how everything fits together in the big career picture.
Learning and leadership development are top priorities of the GTLP, and we’re given numerous opportunities throughout the year to learn more about the business and also practice our own leadership and presentation skills. I really value my time in the GTLP, and I’ve been fortunate enough to seize so many opportunities to lead, present and explore new technologies. My advice is: if you’re hesitant about applying, don’t have a single doubt and just do it!
The GTLP is truly the ideal way to kick-start your career in the technology industry. The leadership, business and technical skills I’ve developed have helped me become a well-rounded engineer quite early in my career. Within my first year in the GTLP, I’ve had the opportunity to lead our social media subprogram, work towards obtaining my professional engineering license, expand my network through the mentorship program, participate in hackathons, and so much more. The GTLP community is extremely supportive and has encouraged me to excel in every aspect of my career.
I completed my first rotation with the Small Cell team and I’m now working in the Wireless Service Operation Center Analytics team. I’ve assisted with 5G network design, created cell performance dashboards, developed automation, and learned about emerging smart city technologies. Whether you’re passionate about software, hardware, networks, 5G, the Internet of Things (IoT) or anything in between, the GTLP will provide you with every opportunity to develop the skills required to be successful in what you do.
Sara, Data Scientist
What convinced me to choose the GTLP over other new grad programs was its unique rotational system, which gives you the opportunity to try out different technology streams. This can also be a great way to unexpectedly discover your true passion! I started the program as an electrical engineering grad working in TELUS’ Evolved Packet Core (EPC) architecture team. It was a great experience because it gave me invaluable insight into how our wireless network is engineered.
After I completed my first rotation, I felt like I wanted to try something outside of my comfort zone. Even though I had no background in it, I decided to move into data science and I haven’t looked back since. During my second and third rotations, I’ve conducted many interesting analytical experiments with our wireless data to help improve TELUS’ customer experience and marketing. Not only has the GTLP allowed me to expand my technical abilities, but I’ve also developed leadership skills that will help me as I advance my career.
