New devices and software versions will enable VoLTE by default and may not have a VoLTE setting.

iPhone devices 6S, 6S+, 7, 7+, SE and earlier models running iOS 13.4 will have the VoLTE setting defaulted to ON.
The VoLTE switch is ON and has been hidden on devices running iOS 14.5 and later.

How to enable LTE/VoLTE on an Android device

On Android, the settings vary slightly from one model to another and from one Android operating system to another. Below, you'll find the most common settings to enable VoLTE:

Other frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Do I have to pay more for using VoLTE?

No. All your voice usage will be billed according to your TELUS mobility plan, so you won't be using any of your monthly data allowance.

Does VoLTE use up my data?

No. Making voice calls with VoLTE will be treated as a regular voice call and will not affect your data usage.

Can I roam with VoLTE?

If you’re a mobile customer with a postpaid plan, you can use VoLTE roaming services in the U.S. and several international countries. Note
: Roaming is not available to prepaid customers. 

With VoLTE roaming, postpaid customers can place and receive calls over the LTE network. If there is no VoLTE coverage or you don't have a VoLTE-enabled device, you'll continue roaming on the HSPA network (if one is available locally).

VoLTE roaming rates will be the same as current HSPA roaming rates.
Some short-codes and toll-free numbers may not work while roaming.
While roaming internationally, we recommend that postpaid customers use “plus dialling” for making local and international calls. Dial plus (
+
) followed by country code and the number.
For example, to make local calls while roaming in Japan (Country Code = 81), dial
+
(by long-pressing
0
) followed by
81
, i.e. +81-XXXXX-XXXXX. To make calls back to Canada (Country Code = 1), dial

Will my device work on the TELUS VoLTE network?

All new devices sold by TELUS in 2018 or later and most sold in Canada will work on the TELUS VoLTE network. If you're not sure how old your device is or you didn’t buy it from TELUS, you can check if your device is VoLTE-compatible
. 

Depending on the device model, you'll have to check the model number or the IMEI to verify if your device is compatible with TELUS’ VoLTE network. On Android devices, you can find this information under Settings
 > About Phone
.

Why can't I use my current device?

Older devices don't have the technology necessary to use LTE and VoLTE and won't be able to connect. Some newer devices also won't be able to connect to the VoLTE network if they are purchased outside of Canada as they won't be compatible with Canadian settings. If your phone is not VoLTE-compatible, dial *611
 from your TELUS Business device for support to upgrade your phone.
