TELUS Secure Business security system device and hardware issues
Learn more about the possible causes of issues with your security system hardware.
Your security system has several components, some of which are door and window contacts, motion sensors, and flood sensors. These sensors are controlled and monitored by your security system’s keypad or control panel.
When your keypad or control panel loses connection with one of these sensors, your keypad should indicate a trouble light and it will send a Device Trouble signal to our Monitoring station.
Below are possible causes of the issues and resolutions for your TELUS Secure Business security system’s hardware.
Interference between the Control Panel and sensor
An object may be blocking the frequency from your Control Panel to your sensor (i.e. you moved your sensor or rearranged furniture or equipment).
Examples of frequency interference include:
Brick or thick walls
Metal
Chicken wire
Foil
Mirrors
TVs
HVAC systems
Refrigerators
How to resolve
:
Remove the object blocking the frequency.
If the issue persists, you may need a technician to relocate the sensor if possible.
If the interference is unavoidable, such as a new wall, or the placement of equipment (door or window), it may be necessary to upgrade your system.
Distance between the Control Panel and sensor is too far
Sensors are connected to the Control Panel using secure frequencies. If the sensor has been moved or is currently located too far from the Control Panel, it may be out of range.
How to resolve
:
Install the sensor closer to the Control Panel.
If the device cannot be moved or the location is fixed, you may need to install a device repeater or signal booster.
No power
Most sensors are wireless and operate on batteries. After the sensor batteries are depleted, the sensor will go into a malfunctioning state.
How to resolve
:
Replace the battery in the sensor.
Note
: To avoid false alarm triggers, please make sure to place your system on “test” mode before opening any devices.
The sensor is damaged
If the sensor is damaged, it may cause a device trouble signal.
How to resolve
:
This will require a technician to replace the sensor. Regular service charges may apply.
