How to enable Extended Network Coverage on your device for TELUS Business customers
Learn how to set up and use your business mobile device with TELUS Extended Network.
What is Extended Network Coverage?
Extended Network Coverage provides cellular connectivity in specific areas within Canada where there is no TELUS network coverage, by connecting you to a partner’s network in specific areas within Canada.
If you are entering an area with Extended Network coverage, your phone will connect to the partner’s network (typically takes a few seconds), so you can continue to use your data, text and voice services without additional charges.

section for more details.When connected to our Extended Network, your device network identifier will show our partner carrier instead of “TELUS”. Network identifiers typically show up in the top-left or top-right corner of your screen. Not all devices display them.
The following location will be eligible for Extended Network Coverage:
- Highway 14 BC (Sooke to Port Renfrew)
Eligibility and limitations of Extended Network Coverage
To be eligible for Extended Network Coverage:
- You must be on a postpaid TELUS Business mobility plan.
- You may need to have data roaming enabled on your business mobile device.
There are certain limitations that will apply when you connect to Extended Network Coverage:
- VoLTE and 5G networks are not accessible at this time. Your phone will connect only to the LTE network for data, and 3G network for voice.
- Your experience will differ when consulting your voicemail:
- If you have regular voicemail, you will need to enter your voicemail passcode when retrieving your messages
- If you have Visual Voicemail, it will continue to work the same as on the TELUS network
- You might not be able to dial and use the following short code numbers:
- 211: Community Information
- 311: Non-Emergency Municipal Government
- 411: Directory Assistance
- 511: Weather & Traveller Information
- 711: Access to Message Relay Service (MRS)
- 811: Non-Urgent Health Teletriage Service
- Other short code numbers starting with the pound sign (#)
- Other short code number based on text (for example, CAA)
- You will not be able to use the following services:
- TELUS Business Connect
- Calling long-distance
- You will need to use the following dialling pattern to call long-distance: 1+ area code + phone number to connect
Extended Network Coverage is intended for limited and occasional use. As such, the majority of your monthly usage (data, text and calls) must occur on the TELUS network. If most of your monthly usage occurs when connected to Extended Network Coverage, we may restrict or limit your access to Extended Coverage on an ongoing basis.
Geographical coverage areas may change at any time without notice. Please note that TELUS is not liable for any loss suffered as a result of any disruptions or outages to Extended Coverage, or as a result of any changes to areas where Extended Coverage is available.
Setting up your device to use Extended Network Coverage
Once you enter an Extended Network Coverage area, your business device will automatically connect and you will be able to make voice calls and use text messages. To use data, you may need to make sure data roaming is turned on in your device settings.
To enable data roaming on your business device, follow the device-specific instructions below:
iOS (Apple) devices:
- SelectSettings.
- SelectCellular.
- SelectCellular Data Options.
- ToggleData RoamingON. It will appear green when data roaming is enabled.
Android devices:
- SelectSettings.
- SelectNetwork and Internet.
- SelectMobile Network.
- Toggle ONRoaming - Connect to data services when roaming.
BlackBerry 10 devices:
- SelectSettings.
- SelectNetwork Connections.
- SelectMobile Networks.
If you have an eSIM:
iOS (Apple) devices:
- SelectSettings.
- SelectCellular.
- UnderSIMs, select yourTELUS phone number.
- ToggleData RoamingON. It’ll appear green when data roaming is enabled.
Android devices:
- SelectSettings.
- SelectNetwork and Internet.
- SelecteSim TELUS.
- Toggle ONRoaming - Connect to data services when roaming.
Experience when connecting to Extended Network Coverage
When entering an Extended Network Coverage area:
Your business device will disconnect from the TELUS network and reconnect to our partner’s network, which will typically take a few seconds.
- If you are on a call, your call will be disconnected and you will need to call back.
- If you are using data (example, browsing the Internet or watching a video), your data session will disconnect. You might have to refresh the webpage you were visiting.
Your device network identifier will show our partner carrier instead of “TELUS”, meaning you are now connected to our Extended Network Coverage. This means that you are connected to our Extended Network Coverage. Network identifiers typically show up in the top-left or top-right corner of your screen. Not all devices display them. If you’re using an Android device, your device might also display a small “R,” indicating that you’re roaming, but there won’t be any additional fee for you to use this service within Canada.
Some features and services may not be available while on the Extended Network (see
Extended Network Eligibility
section).When exiting an Extended Network Coverage area:
Your business device will automatically reconnect to the TELUS network within a few seconds after you have re-entered the TELUS network coverage area.
Once a call is established in an Extended Network Coverage area, it will continue without interruption until the call is completed.
Once a data session is established (for example, browsing the Internet or watching a video), your session will stay connected until it's ended (for example, you close your Internet browser).
Your device network identifier will return to “TELUS”. This implies that you are back on the TELUS network. Network identifiers show up in the top-left or top-right corner of the screen. Not all devices display them.
Will I get charged to use Extended Network Coverage?
There are no additional charges specific to using Extended Network Coverage. All your usage while connected to Extended Network Coverage will be billed according to your current rate plan, including any airtime and long-distance rates included in your rate plan or add-ons.
