How Data for Good works

The program includes technical, contractual and procedural protections to ensure that strongly de-identified and aggregated network mobility data is used only by authorized parties for approved purposes that are socially beneficial.

Internal Review

Participating researchers are reviewed for alignment with the program qualifications and the
TELUS Trust Model
.

Signing program agreement

We clearly outline the purpose for access, data retention expectations, and prohibit attempts to re-identify data.

User Training

Researchers are provided with training regarding the applicable scope of the program, privacy controls and terms of use prior to onboarding.

Platform Access

Once researchers are approved and trained, they receive access to a controlled application programming interface (API) for network mobility data.

Creating Value

Through this access, the researchers can conduct innovative projects with a social impact.

Data used in Data for Good is rigorously de-identified and aggregated. The data used is not personal data that can reasonably identify who you are, where you go or what you do. You can always choose to opt out.

Our Data Enablement Plan (DEP) is rooted in the idea that data has incredible potential. Through this program, data risks are identified, mitigated or removed altogether. DEP assesses privacy, security, AI, ethics and more in a single process to guide business data strategy and deliver the best products and services to our customers and communities

Driving Data Dialogue

The Data & Trust Office works to build awareness and trust in data and technology by engaging audiences in various ways, such as taking part in interviews, speaking opportunities and workshops as well as participating in forums that matter.

Growing Data Stewardship

With over 525 data stewards and counting, TELUS is continually strengthening data governance, enhancing risk assessments, and driving innovation.
