Boutique wine agency bottles up a new online experienceQuebec · May 29, 2020

With technology allowing distributors to reach consumers they couldn’t access pre-COVID-19, alcohol sales continue to rise as niche-winemakers earn more and more exposure. Alexandra Boake, owner of Onivino Vins et Spiritueux, decided to take advantage of this by creating dynamic ways to virtually connect with her newfound audience.
“The key was to keep our hands-on approach to servicing our niche clientele, while expanding the way we use technology to communicate and sell our product.” - Alexandra Boake, owner of Onivino Vins et Spiritueux
Many local businesses have been struggling to make the move online as the pandemic keeps shoppers from their stores, but for Alexandra Boake, owner of Onivino Vins et Spiritueux in Montreal, the adjustment has been seamless. Her business partner lives abroad, and they stay connected using online video to manage their company, often sharing stories about winemaking or sampling bottles from afar. This led to Alex’s brilliant idea of hosting a weekly webinar for their customers, featuring the many winemakers and vineyard owners from their carefully curated portfolio. This quickly transformed into an entirely new way to connect with customers that not many in the wine world were doing, and it’s given Onivino Vins et Spiritueux brand recognition that they never thought possible before the pandemic.
The increase in their online presence quickly led to a new influx of customers who had never heard of their company. Their website needed a makeover to accommodate their new customers, and educate them on the selection of products available. Boake and her team realized that it was crucial to act swiftly, but also strategically. She says, “We are really proud of the way we embraced technology to keep our customers engaged, either through the weekly webinars or our revised website.”
Right now, we’re not able to enjoy dinner and drinks at restaurants like before, so Boake was inspired to help people have fun from home. By using this insight as a compass in adjusting her business, she was able to make moves that resonated with her clientele’s new interests and lifestyle.
Montreal is filled with so much talent, it’s impossible for her to pick out one place in particular she misses dining out at the most. “We certainly miss eating out and having a glass of wine in our beautiful, vibrant city.” Until then, we can at least toast the day with something delicious from Onivino Vins et Spiritueux, and do so in their company with them online.
