Yes, to use Z-Wave sensors with your SmartHome+ service, you are required to have a compatible controller / hub. Please see here for more information. If you did not receive a hub with your SmartHome+ subscription, please contact TELUS.

Z-Wave devices work best in a mesh network, so even though the sensor has a range of up to 1,300 feet line of sight, this means 1,300 feet with other Z-Wave signal repeating devices between where the hub is and where the sensor will be installed is optimal. The more signal repeating (non-battery powered) devices included on your network, the stronger it is and easier it is for the hub to reach devices that are further away.

Note: Environments with a lot of glass or metal elements, large furniture, and thick walls can be very disruptive to Z-Wave signals.

You should get around 12-14 months out of the sensor with normal use.

We don't recommend using rechargeable batteries as they usually decrease in max voltage with time, which may create a shorter battery life if using them. The Z-Wave chip manufacturer also requires all Z-Wave devices to report low battery at 2.6V and many rechargeable batteries are not full 3V when charged so it may seem like the battery is empty even at full charge.

Schedule installation: After your purchase, log into your My TELUS account. There, you can schedule an installation appointment provided the device is eligible for professional installation. Also, you’ll find out if your address is eligible during this process.
