The TELUS Pitch Contest: A $100,000 Small Business contest begins at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time (“EDT”) on August 21, 2017 and ends at 11:59 EDT on October 29, 2017 (the “Contest Period”).
This contest is open to all residents of Canada (excluding Quebec) who have reached the age of majority according to the laws of the Province where they reside, excluding employees of TELUS Corporation, its affiliated companies or subsidiaries (collectively “TELUS”), its advertising and promotional agencies and members of their respective immediate households and any person domiciled with any of the above.
Entrants must be either 1) the owner of a company or business domiciled in Canada (excluding Quebec) with 1-50 employees (an “eligible small business”); or 2) an employee of an eligible small business who has obtained written permission to participate in this Contest from the owner, president or chief executive of the Eligible Small Business (the “Eligible Entrant”).
Upon request by TELUS, each entrant must provide proof of their identity, qualification as an Eligible Entrant. Submission may be disqualified where such proof is not provided upon request.
Should you be selected as a potential Finalist, TELUS will perform a background check on you and your Eligible Small Business, including but not limited to a Dun & Bradstreet Report. No Submissions will be returned. All Submissions become the property of TELUS. Your Submission must adhere to the Submission Rules (as described below).

No other form of participation is accepted. Only one entry per “Eligible Small Business” will be accepted for the duration of the contest. All Submissions received within the entire Contest Period will be eligible for a chance to win a maximum of one (1) prize
There will be five (5) winners selected by a panel of judges (criteria list below). Winners will receive one of the following Prizes (the “Prize”):
Grand prize consists of a $100,000.00 CDN grant (the “Grant”) payable by TELUS by cheque to the winner.
The Grant will be awarded in two instalments: (1) $50,000 upon confirmation of the Winner; and (2) $50,000 upon the Winner providing the Contest Sponsors with a verbal or written status update (the “Status Report”) within one year of being awarded the first instalment of the Grant, indicating: (1) How the first $50,000 instalment of the Prize awarded was used and what successes resulted from the application of the money to the Eligible Small Business; and (2) How the remaining $50,000 will be applied to the Eligible Small Business.
Finalist prizes consist of a $10,000 CDN grant (the “Grant”) payable by TELUS by cheque to the winner.
Two (2) Finalists, who do not win the Grand Prize, will receive a Finalist Prize.
Community Impact Prize consists of:
(1) a $10,000 CDN grant (the “Grant”) payable by TELUS by cheque to the winner
(2) a $10,000 CDN charity prize (the “Charity Prize”) to donate to a charity of their choice*
*The Charity Prize may be donated only to a charity that is:
(1) a registered Canadian charity with the Canada Revenue Agency
(2) not registered with the Canada Revenue Agency under the religious category or any of the categories below:

Prizes must be accepted as awarded, without substitution, transfer, exchange or assignment except in TELUS' sole and absolute discretion. TELUS reserves the right to substitute the Prize in whole or in part. Winners are solely responsible for all costs not expressly described herein. Phone prize does not include activation and all activations are subject to a credit check and the TELUS Service Terms.
Submissions will be judged by a panel composed of representatives of TELUS, and one or more representatives of the small business community (the “Judges”) on or about November 3, 2017. Judging is at the sole and absolute discretion of the Judges, without right of appeal. The Judges will judge the Submissions using the following evaluation scheme:
Criteria and weighting:
The Judges will select the top three (3) Submissions from among the Submissions of all Eligible Entrants based on the above noted criteria (the potential “Finalists”), as well as the best community impact and most promising startup winner. On or about November 6, 2017, TELUS will attempt to contact each potential Finalist by telephone.
To be confirmed a Finalist, the potential Finalist must: (1) respond to the telephone notification within two (2) business days of being contacted; (2) review, sign and return within the time frame specified any and all agreements as required by TELUS, including waivers, release agreement, release of liability and indemnity agreements and intellectual property licenses; and (3) be available and able to attend the Live Pitch Event tentatively scheduled on November 13, 2017 at 25 York Street, Toronto, Ontario.
Potential finalists determined by TELUS to be ineligible, for reasons including but not limited to failure to comply with the Contest Rules, failure to be contacted or respond to contact attempts, and being unable to attend The Live Pitch Event, will be disqualified from the Contest.
TELUS reserve the right to award the potential Finalist spot to the Submission with the next highest score in accordance with the criteria in their sole discretion. TELUS may, at their sole discretion, profile one or more of the confirmed Finalists and their Submissions in print, digital, electronic, mobile and social media formats of TELUS. All confirmed Finalists hereby consent to the profiling and publication of their Submissions in accordance with these Contest Rules, and will use reasonable efforts to cooperate in the preparation of such profiles and publicity by TELUS.
The three confirmed Finalists will attend The Live Pitch Event at TELUS Harbour (25 York Street, Toronto, Ontario), scheduled on November 13, 2017. Transportation, accommodations and other reasonably necessary expenses will be arranged and provided for by TELUS in their sole discretion. Each Finalist will be required to make a two to three minute presentation at The Live Pitch Event to the Judges and attendees as to why they should win the Grand Prize.
Following the pitches, the judges will deliberate and a winner will be chosen and announced at the Live Pitch event.
The event will be “Live Streamed” and made available online, including but not limited to the TELUS business Facebook page and TELUS’ website.
All entries become the property of TELUS. TELUS assumes no responsibility for lost, stolen, delayed, damaged or misdirected entries or for any failure of the website, for any problems or technical malfunction of any computer online systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail or entry to be received by TELUS on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website, or any combination thereof including any injury or damage to an entrant's or any other person's computer related to or resulting from this contest. TELUS reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to change, cancel or suspend this contest should a virus, bug or other cause beyond the reasonable control of TELUS and its advertising and promotional agencies, corrupt the security or proper administration of the contest or for any other reason. Entries are subject to verification and will be declared invalid if they are illegible, mechanically reproduced, mutilated, forged, falsified, altered or tampered with or unlawful in any way. Entries submitted by unauthorized means or by spamming will be disqualified. In the event that it has been determined that an entry has been made in an manner not sanctioned by these rules and/or an entrant has submitted more than the number of entries permitted by these rules, the entrant and all of his/her entries will be disqualified. Entrants agree to abide by the Contest Rules and the decisions of the contest judges, which are final. This contest is subject to all applicable laws and regulations.
