Set up TELUS email on your computer using Outlook 2013

In the Gmail web interface

  1. Click on the 9-dot menu and select Account
  2. Select Security on the left-hand side
  3. Scroll down to “Less secure app access” and select Turn on access
  4. Toggle “Allow less secure apps switch” to On
  5. Open your email account in a browser by visiting
  6. Left-click on the gear icon in the upper right corner and select See all settings
  7. From the top menu select Forwarding and POP/IMAP

To use IMAP (recommended method):

  1. In that menu under IMAP access select Enable IMAP
  2. Select Save changes

In Outlook 2013

  1. From your desktop, select Start
  2. From the Start menu, select Microsoft Office Outlook 2013
  3. Once the application opens, select File
  4. From the left panel, select Info
  5. Select +Add Account
  6. The Add new account window is displayed. Select Manually configure server settings or additional server types
  7. Select Next
  8. Select IMAP
  9. Select Next
  10. Type the following information:
    • Your name: The name that will be displayed to recipients of emails you send
    • Email address: Your TELUS email address
    • Account type: Select IMAP
    • Incoming mail server:
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP):
    • User name: Your full email address used to log in
    • Password: Your password
    • Check Remember password
  11. Click More settings...
  12. Choose the Outgoing server tab
  13. Check My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
    • Make sure you have Use same settings as my incoming mail server selected
  1. Choose the Advanced tab
    • Change both Use the following type of encrypted connection to be SSL (this will change the Incoming server (IMAP) port number change to 993, this is correct)
    • Change the Outgoing server (SMTP) port number to 465
  1. Click OK
  2. Click Next. Outlook should tell you that all tests have been successful (if not, please double check you entered the settings correctly)
  1. Click Close on the "Test account settings" window
  2. Click Finish to complete the setup
