Set up TELUS email on your computer using Outlook 2007

Instructions on setting up TELUS email on your computer through Outlook 2007

In the Gmail web interface


  1. Click on the nine-dot menu and select Account
  2. Select Security on the left hand side
  3. Scroll down to “Less secure app access” and select Turn on access
  4. Toggle “Allow less secure apps switch” to On
  5. Open your email account in a browser by visiting mail.google.com/a/telus.net
  6. Left-click on the gear icon in the upper right corner and select See all settings
  7. From the top menu, select Forwarding and POP/IMAP

To use IMAP (recommended method):

  1. In the menu under IMAP access, select Enable IMAP
  2. Select Save changes

In Outlook 2007


Before you begin, download and install MS Outlook 2007 on your computer if you have not done so already. To learn more, visit the Microsoft website.

  1. From your desktop, select Start
  2. From the Start menu, select Microsoft Office Outlook 2007
  3. From the top taskbar , select Tools
  4. Select Account settings
  5. From the email tab, select New
  6. Select Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP or HTTP
  7. Select Next. The Auto account setup is displayed
  8. Check the Manually configure server settings or additional server types check box
  9. Select Next
  10. Select Internet email
  11. Select Next. The Internet email settings screen is displayed
  12. Type the following information:
    • Your name: The name that will be displayed to recipients of emails you send
    • Email address: Your telus.net email address
    • Account type: Select IMAP
    • Incoming mail server: imap.gmail.com
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com
    • Account name, user name or email address: Your full email address
    • Password: Your password
    • Select the Remember password check box
    • Select Require logon using Secure Password Authentication checkbox
  13. Select More settings to choose “Outgoing server” tab
    a. Select the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication checkbox
  14. Select Advance tab
    a. Incoming Server (IMAP): Port 993
    b. Use the following type of encryption connection: SSL
    c. Outgoing Server SMTP: Port 465
    d. Use the following type of encryption connection: SSL
  15. Select OK
  16. Select Test account settings
  17. If you have received status “Completed”, then press Close
  18. Select Finish

Your TELUS email account is set up for use with Microsoft Office Outlook 2007.
