There are four main hardware components in a typical home security system:

• Cameras, so you can monitor what’s happening in and around you home
• Sensors that send alerts in the event of unauthorized entries, floods, etc.
• Smart locks, allowing keyless entry to your home via an app
• Control panel, to activate and deactivate monitors, etc.

Smart home security is an umbrella term that includes home security plans and many different types of hardware, such as security cameras and sensors, or smart garage door openers and doorbell cameras.

Home monitoring is a subset of smart home security and involves the process of monitoring your home for events like break ins, fires, or alerts.

Our Smart Camera and Smart Automation plans only offer self monitoring, meaning you receive notifications through the TELUS app when an alarm is triggered. With our self-monitored plans, you decide if or how to take action.

Our Secure and Control + Video plans are professionally monitored, meaning if an alarm is triggered, trained professionals take the appropriate action: alerting your emergency contacts, dispatching Guard Response (where available) to verify intrusion alarms, and alerting the appropriate responders – e.g. police, fire dept, ambulance – if an emergency is confirmed.

TELUS is available if you:

• Have high speed internet (if video feeds are desired) and are within the TELUS Mobility HSPA coverage area

There are two installation options for Smart Automation Plus plans.

You can do it yourself:

• If you are comfortable with basic home repairs and using a ladder, you can do-it-yourself.

• You'll get a Self-install Kit with all your devices and necessary instructions.

• Install on your own time with online guidance using a simple self-installation app and call-in support if you need it.

We can do it for you:

• Our In-Person installation technicians will do a safety assessment before installing your order.

• If the guidelines are met, we'll arrange an appointment and they will wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the entirety of the install.

Our trained professionals monitor sensors only (i.e. door and window sensors, flood sensors). They do not and cannot monitor security cameras.

All home monitoring cameras are password-protected. You set the password, and therefore you are in control. Choose a secure password, keep it safe, and you can feel confident your privacy is protected.

As for audio, we can only hear you if you actively initiate a conversation.
