Equitable Life switches digital billing providers to expand and enhance electronic claims experience

TELUS Health eClaims offers Equitable Life and its plan members more efficient and convenient paramedical and vision claims adjudication

WATERLOO – Equitable Life of Canada® announced today that it has switched to TELUS Health eClaims to support direct digital billing of paramedical and vision claims adjudication for its plan members. This shift to a faster and more seamless claims submission solution will allow Equitable Life to continue to process most eligible claims immediately and pay the provider directly, while minimizing out-of-pocket costs for plan members. Further, plan members will be able to process claims from a broader list of allied healthcare professionals.

“For plan members, it means they have a fast and easy option for submitting claims,” said Maureen Long, Group Claims, Disability and Administration Vice-President at Equitable Life. “They can find out how much is covered before they leave their healthcare provider’s office. And they only pay for amounts not covered by their benefits plan, such as deductibles or coinsurance.”

Digital claims adjudication allows healthcare providers, such as optometrists, massage therapists and chiropractors, to submit claims on behalf of their patients directly from their office in real-time. TELUS Health, which is also Equitable Life’s provider for digital pharmacy claims, has an expansive network of health providers across Canada including relationships with more than 70,000 paramedical and vision providers. With this new agreement Equitable Life will be able to process claims from more than twice as many providers so plan memberscan enjoy the time-saving convenience of direct claims submissions.

“We are pleased our relationship with Equitable Life is expanding to include the added benefit and convenience that our eClaims service provides for the company as well as its plan members,” said Martin Bélanger, Vice-president, Health Benefits Management, TELUS Health. “Online direct billing is recommended by 91 percent of healthcare professionals to their peers and plan members appreciate the simplified process and reduced out-of-pocket expenses.”
