Who should have 3D Mole Mapping?

Someone who: Has a personal or family history of melanoma, or other skin cancers Has a personal or family history of multiple abnormal moles Has multiple (> 50) moles Has fair skin, history of significant sunburns, chronic sun exposure or use of tanning beds Note: 3D Mole Mapping is meant to complement your regular primary care or dermatology visits. It is important that you continue seeing them as recommended.

Is the Vectra WB360 covered by insurance?

The service may be covered by health spending accounts. Check with your plan to confirm coverage.

Is it safe? Is there any radiation involved?

Absolutely - it is safe for all patients. This system uses high resolution digital photography technology and does not produce any radiation or magnetic fields. The Vectra WB360 is Health Canada approved and the 3D total body mole mapping imaging technology is used at many renowned skin cancer centres globally today.

How long will the appointment take?

Be prepared to spend approximately 45 mins for your appointment.

How much of my body will be imaged?

The 3D Mole Mapping imaging covers most of the skin surface. The Vectra 3D imaging device does not capture images of areas such as the scalp, underarms, bottom of the feet, or areas covered by garments. It may also have difficulty imaging areas with dense hair or natural skin folds.

How often do I need to do it?

Follow-up frequency will be determined by your healthcare provider based on your individual needs and risk factors.

3D Mole Mapping is a groundbreaking whole-body imaging system for early skin cancer detection. This state of the art system captures the entire surface of your skin in seconds. Using the Vectra WB360, 92 high resolution cameras produce a 3D map of your body.

3D Mole Mapping allows a dermatologist to monitor and track skin lesions over time. This tool can help detect skin cancer at an early stage1. Subtle changes in moles may be indicative of skin cancer, particularly melanoma, which, when found early, is at its most curable phase.

How it works

Before your appointment

To ensure the most accurate results, please review the following instructions:

Arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for check-in.

Please be clean-shaven and avoid wearing any lotions or makeup on the day of your appointment.

Individuals with excess body hair are advised trimming to allow the cameras to scan the surface of your skin.

Be ready to remove any jewelry and glasses prior to the scan.

You will be asked to review and sign a consent form prior to your appointment.

During your appointment

Our staff will explain the imaging process in detail.

You will be asked to change into a special garment and robe that will be provided to you. Please remove your clothing, jewelry, glasses and tie up long hair.

Next, you will stand in the Vectra WB360 imaging booth. You will see a number of bright flashes as the images are captured in less than 5 seconds. It’s completely painless and non-invasive.

Once the photos are captured, you can put the robe back on while our system processes the 3D mole map.

Any moles that require further magnification photography will be photographed up-close with a handheld device called a dermatoscope.

After your appointment

Your 3D Mole Mapping results will be reviewed by our dermatologist, and you will be notified if a mole is found to be suspicious requiring follow-up.

Follow-up care is to be provided by your primary care provider.
