Meet our current and past grads

Our current and past program participants have built amazing careers at TELUS in technology and leadership roles:

Nirmal, Engineer-in-Training

For me, the GTLP represents the perfect transition from university to industry and I could not have asked for a better platform to launch my career. My first rotation was with TELUS’ Network Logical Engineering team, where I learned the fundamentals of networking by working on real-life projects such as configuring and commissioning telecom-grade routers, and migrating Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs). In my second rotation with the Cyber Security Operations team, I developed an understanding of network security concepts and put them in practice by working on our production network that carries huge volumes of customer traffic.

I’m currently in my final rotation with our Network as a Service (NaaS) team, and am working on a product to deliver software-defined WAN solutions to TELUS’ business customers. The GTLP has allowed me to expand my technical skills while also building business and leadership skills through the opportunity to lead various initiatives such as mentoring our co-op students.

Cornell, Engineer-in-Training

Ever since my first exposure to TELUS as a co-op student, I developed a keen interest in the design of mobile broadband networks – our networks serve millions of customers and enable them to communicate effectively both in their personal lives and at work. My fascination with wireless technologies motivated me to return to TELUS and join the GTLP.

So far, I have been able to complete rotations within both our Radio Access Network (RAN) and Wireless Core teams – this has been invaluable in helping me gain an end-to-end understanding of how wireless networks work. In my current team that is working on evolving our RAN operations, we are leveraging data science, machine learning and automation capabilities to transform traditional telecom workflows, and preparing ourselves as TELUS advances towards 5G networks. The GTLP has allowed me to gain experience across all aspects of our wireless network, while continually learning and applying the next generation of technology.

Vishakha, Security Consultant

I found out about the GTLP while working at TELUS as a co-op student. I was excited about the incredible learning opportunities the program offers and wanted to experience it firsthand. During my first rotation, I discovered a passion for cybersecurity while working on an Internet of Things (IoT) project involving Identity and Privacy in the Connected Home, which made me aspire for a career path in cybersecurity. I went on to complete further rotations in the security realm and secured a full-time role on our Security DevOps team.

I am currently working on our Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) Platform team where I support system enhancements and operations for a customer-facing platform. Additionally, I’m working on supporting Ansible automation to simplify the complexity of work our security consultants lead for TELUS’ customers. The GTLP experience has been hugely rewarding for me – both in helping me identify and explore my passion, as well as in giving me exposure and experience across multiple teams and departments.
