Understanding Apple Watch connectivity

Your device has cellular network access. Learn how to check the status of the cellular network your device is connected to.

  1. Note: To get the most of your Apple Watch even when your iPhone isn’t nearby, keep your iPhone powered on and connected to a network. Apple Watch automatically switches to the most power-efficient connection available.

  2. Step 1 of 4:

    From a watch face, swipe up to access Control Center.

  3. Step 2 of 4:

    If your Cellular icon is green, that means you are connected to a cellular network.

    Note: The top left corner of your watch will show your current signal strength.

    Step 2/4

  4. Step 3 of 4:

    If your Cellular icon is white, that means your cellular connection has been activated, but that your watch is using a Wi-Fi connection.

    Note: The top left corner of your watch will show a Wi-Fi icon. Enabling Wi-Fi calling on your watch may take up to 60 seconds each time you reconnect to the network.
