Optik TV service programming and rate updates

As of April 29, 2021, select channels will be moved between theme packs. Customers currently subscribed to the former theme pack, and are not subscribed to the theme pack where the channel will be moved to, will lose access to these channels. Customers who lose access to these channels may resubscribe by managing their channels via My TELUS.

In addition, on April 29, 2021, some theme packs will be renamed. There will be no impact to customers as a result of these name changes.

On November 1, 2020, the cost of one of your individual channels, EWTN (Eternal World Television Network) on channel 874 increased to $5/month. Unfortunately, due to a human error, you were not notified of this change. We apologize for this oversight and to thank you for your understanding, we will be issuing a one-time $20 credit on your next bill to cover the cost of the past 4 months of this change, plus February and March of 2021.

As of April 1, 2021, the updated rate for EWTN will become permanent. The credit you are receiving refunds the difference between the old rate and the new rate between November 2020 until April 1, 2021.

Due to a recent channel provider change, HIFI will be rebranding to BBC First effective March 16, 2021. The channel name included in our packages and content has changed, but the channel number will remain the same.

Rate increase

Starting with your April 2021 bill, the monthly rate for specific Optik TV plans will increase by $3. The monthly rate increase will apply to the following plans:

• Essentials & 1 Premium
• 3 Theme Packs
• 4 Theme Packs & 1 Premium
• 7 Theme Packs & 1 Premium
• 15 Theme Packs & 2 Premiums
• 22 Theme Packs & 2 Premiums

If you are in a 2-year term, your price is guaranteed and the $3 increase will not apply until the first bill after your term expires.

If you are not currently on a 2-year term and would like to keep your current rate for the next 2 years, please visit telus.com/optiktvrenewal to add a new 2-year term to your Optik TV and/or Internet plan.

Ongoing Discounts expiry

As of April 1, 2021, if you are currently in a month-to-month TV service agreement with an ongoing Promotional Discount or ongoing Optik TV Combo Discount, these discounts will expire.

Month-to-Month customers may enter into a 2-year term to continue your current discount for 24 months. If you are in a 2-year term with the ongoing Promotional Discount or ongoing Optik TV Combo Discount, you will not be charged until the first bill after your term expires.

Book TV channel turndown

Starting February 22nd, 2021, Book TV will no longer be offered on Optik TV. The channel will be removed from your account, no action is required on your part. Fashion TV channel turndown

Starting February 22nd, 2021, Fashion TV will no longer be offered on Optik TV. The channel will be removed from your account, no action is required on your part. In order to upgrade the Optik TV browser experience from Flash to HTML5 as well as resolve some existing defects with the Optik TV app, we will be conducting some scheduled maintenance from November 9, 2020 to November 20, 2020. During this time, you may notice some minor issues with your Optik TV App On Demand experience and app settings, and you may be asked to log back in using your My TELUS credentials.

Browser experience

If your Optik TV browser is still asking you to enable Flash, you may need to clear your cache and update your bookmarks. To clear your browser cache:

• On Google Chrome, navigate to Settings → Privacy and security → Clear browsing data
• On Microsoft Edge, navigate to Settings → Privacy & security → Clear browsing data
• On Safari, navigate to Safari → Clear history

On Demand

If you purchase an On Demand video title, you may notice that it is not immediately available on your other Optik TV App devices. There may be up to a 1 hour delay before your On Demand title appears in the Purchases tab of your Optik TV App across all connected devices.

If you are trying to access On Demand video titles for recently aired TV shows on networks that you subscribe to, you may notice a 1-2 day delay after airing before the titles are available to you on all of your devices. Please note that you will still be able to access these titles from 3rd party applications such as CTV Go, Global and Crave.

If you pause your On Demand programming and attempt to resume later or on a different device, you may notice that you are not able to pick up where you left off. Selecting On Demand programming will allow you to fast forward.

If you add a TV show or series to your favourites, this selection may be reset and you may need to re-add it after the maintenance period.

App settings

If you make changes to your language, closed captioning, described video or mobile network streaming settings, these may need to be reset after the scheduled maintenance period.

Below are instructions on how to reset these settings for your Apple TV, mobile devices or browser.

Apple TV:

Audio settings

From the home screen of your Optik TV app on Apple TV, navigate to Settings and scroll down to Audio settings to Enable or Disable Closed Caption (CC) and Described Video (AD).

iOS mobile devices:

Streaming settings

From the home screen of your Optik TV mobile app, select ...More on iOS and scroll down to Streaming to enable or disable streaming over mobile networks.

Please note: When streaming Optik TV over a cellular network, regular data charges may apply.

Accessibility settings

From the home screen of your Optik TV mobile app, select the ...More icon and scroll down to Accessibility to enable or disable Closed Captioning or Described Video.

In the lower right-hand corner of the video playback screen, select the ^ arrow to allow or disable closed captioning (CC) or described video (AD) where available.

As of November 17, 2020, the Game Show Network channel will be moving from the Medley theme pack to the Good Times theme pack. The initiative is taken to improve the content relevancy of the channels within each theme pack and bring more value to our customers.

As a result, Optik TV subscribers of the Medley theme pack, who also don’t subscribe to Good Times theme pack or don’t have Game Show Network added as a-la-carte channel, will not be able to view the channel, unless they add the Good Times theme pack or the Game Show Network channel a-la-carte.

Good Times theme pack can be added as part of your Optik TV combo or as an a-la-carte for an additional $8/month. Alternatively, Game Show Network channel can be added as an a-la-carte channel.

A la carte rate increase

As of November 1, 2020, the rate of one or more a la carte channel(s) in your subscription will increase between $1 and $5 per month per channel. We understand that this change comes at a difficult time and we want to ensure you that we are working hard to provide the best TV experience possible.

We encourage you to explore the option of moving onto one of our theme packs that will continue to provide you with the content you want and much more. Theme packs provide greater value than taking channels a la carte - $10 for two channels in the same theme pack, or $8 for the theme pack with those channels and more. $10 ongoing discount rate change

As of November 1, 2020, if you are currently in a Month-to-Month TV service agreement with the $10 Promotional Discount or $10 Optik TV Combo Discount, the value of these discounts will decrease by $5, where the remaining $5 discount will expire in 12 months.

Month-to-Month customers may enter into a service agreement to receive a $10 discount for 24 months, replacing the $5 12-month expiring discount. Please call 1-888-811-2323 to add a new service agreement to your existing TV plan, or alternatively you can submit a request by *logging into your My TELUS account.

This offer is valid until January 31, 2021 and we will credit any increase applied on your bill if you add a new term by January 31, 2021.

If you are currently in a 24-month service agreement, with the $10 Promotional Discount or $10 Optik TV Combo Discount, at the end of your service agreement the $10 discount will expire. There will be no change to the discount value until that time.

Starting September 12, 2020, the monthly rental rate for the 4K Wireless Digital Box will increase from $7 to $10. If you are receiving your Digital Box as a free rental, you will continue to receive it for free.

Due to a technical billing error, some customers may currently have a $5/month rate for the 4K Wireless Digital Box. This will be corrected on September 12, 2020 to the $10/month rental rate.

There will be no changes to the monthly rental rate for the 4K PVR, HD PVR or HD Wired and Wireless Digital Boxes.

Customers who are in service agreements receive 2 pieces of Optik hardware for free. For more information, please see telus.com/hardware.

China Yellow River Channel turndown

As of June 30, 2020, China Yellow River Channel will no longer be available on Optik TV. Customers who have subscribed to the channel will have their accounts updated to reflect the turndown of the channel.

Stingray rebranding update

Due to a recent channel provider change, Stingray Ambiance will be rebranding to Stingray Naturescape effective June 1, 2020. The channel name included in our packages and content has changed, but the channel number will remain the same.

Video on Demand bill processing error

Due to a system error, customers on Optik TV may not have been properly charged for Video On Demand rentals on their Optik TV account. We have fixed the issue and any new rentals after April 1, 2020 will appear as ‘Video on demand adj.’ on the bill.

Stingray Classica Channel move

Starting February 27, 2020, Stingray Classica will be sold as an ALC channel only and will be removed from all accounts. If you would like Stingray Classica, please subscribe to the channel as a stand-alone channel. To learn more about our Optik TV® channels, please visit telus.com/channels.

Stingray Juicebox update

As of March 3, 2020, Stingray Juicebox will be changing to Stingray Country and will no longer be available on channels 650 and 9650. You can find the best of new country, bro-country, ‘90s country hits and pop country on Stingray Country on channel 583.

Due to a recent channel provider change, Big Magic International will be rebranding to TV Asia effective February 1, 2020.The channel name included in our packages and content have changed, but the channel number will remain the same. As of December 13, 2019, at 11:59pm (PST) TVP Polonia will no longer be available on Optik TV. Customers who have subscribed to the channel will have their accounts updated to reflect the turndown of the channel.

FYI Channel update

As of December 31st, 2019, the FYI channel will no longer be available due to a recent channel provider change. As such, this channel will no longer be available on its own or within the following packages:

Stingray Classica Channel move

Starting November 1st 2019, Stingray Classica will be sold as an ALC channel. If you would like Stingray Classica, please subscribe to the channel as a stand-alone channel.

As of December 5, 2019, T+E (Travel + Escape) will be repackaged to another theme pack. If you would like T+E, please subscribe to the Essentials theme pack.

As of January 9, 2020, TLN (Telelatino) will no longer be available on Optik TV. Customers who have subscribed to the channel will have their accounts updated to reflect the turndown of the channel.

CCTV News and CCTV Documentary are moving to the Chinese CCTV and Beyond theme pack.

As of December 10, 2019, CCTV News and CCTV Documentary will be removed from Essentials. To remain subscribed to these channels, please subscribe to the Chinese CCTV & Beyond theme pack or as individual channels.

Theme pack rate update

Comedy Gold channel update

As of September 1, 2019, the Comedy Gold channel will no longer be available due to a recent channel provider change. As such, this channel will no longer be available on its own or within the following packages:

ATN HD channel update

Starting on September 19, 2019, ATN HD will be repackaged to another theme pack. If you would like ATN HD, please subscribe to the South Asian Favourites theme pack or as a stand-alone channel.

ATN Cricket channel update

Starting on September 19, 2019, ATN Cricket will be repackaged to another theme pack. It will be replaced by ATN HD. If you would like ATN Cricket, please subscribe to the South Asian Cricket Pack (available August 8th, 2019) or as a stand-alone channel.

Sanjha TV channel update

Starting on September 19, 2019, Sanjha TV will be repackaged to another theme pack. If you would like Sanjha TV, please subscribe to the South Asian Variety Theme Pack (available September 19) or as a stand-alone channel.

IFC channel update

As of October 1, 2019, the IFC channel will no longer be available due to a recent channel provider change. As such, this channel will no longer be available on its own or within the following packages:

Cosmo TV channel update

Due to loss of content rights, TSN and Sportsnet will not be broadcasting the 2019–20 English Premier League (starting August 9, 2019). To watch EPL, customers can sign up to DAZN at DAZN.com for $20 a month, or $150 a year, to stream the content via mobile devices and enjoy their first month for free.

Despite this loss of content, all efforts are being made to bring back the EPL to Optik during the 2019-20 season. Stay tuned for further updates.

Due to a recent channel provider change, MusiquePlus will be rebranding to Elle Fictions effective August 26th. Effective this date the channel will be moved from Jeunesse to the Méli-mélo theme pack. If you would like to watch Elle Fictions, please subscribe to the Méli-mélo theme pack.

IFC Channel Update

Due to content provider changes, as of September 30, 2019, IFC channel (#451 HD/#9451 SD) will no longer be available on Optik TV. If you ordered IFC as an individual channel, the associated charges will be automatically removed from your account. This channel will also be removed from the Optik TV Favourite Films theme pack.

Due to recent channel provider changes, as of September 7, 2017, NFL Sunday Ticket Channels: 1501-1516 (HD), 1601-1616 (SD) and Red Zone (channels 927 HD and 9927 SD) will no longer be available for the 2017 season. For customers with Auto-renew, your 2017 subscription will not be renewed and the associated charge will not be applied to your account.

Over the next several weeks, TELUS will be making updates to your Optik TV digital box to improve performance and overall experience. Should your box be unresponsive, try rebooting either of the following:

• Optik TV digita box
• Gateway followed by the digital box

Once the upgrate is complete, you may notice some changes.

A green screen will appear, which means your digital box has been on standby for 4 hours or that you powered off your digital box.

• This green screen will help you easily identify when the box is in standby mode
• Standby mode ensures you can record programs while are asleep or away from home, and is designed to help you save on your energy bill
• To continue watching, simple press the pwer button or OK button on your Optik TV remote

The widescreen standard option will be removed to provide your with the best Optik TV viewing experience for your TV screen size. This setting has been automatically adjusted to improve the look of programs on your TV.
