How devices interfere with your Wi-Fi signal
Wireless interference occurs when something disrupts or weakens the Wi-Fi signal coming from the wireless router/modem. Interference can be caused by almost any device that emits an electro-magnetic signal.
Installing TELUS Boost Wi-Fi can help alleviate Wi-Fi congestion in your home. Learn more about Boost Wi-Fi.
Some devices may cause interference with your Wi-Fi signal when they are within close proximity of your modem. If possible, try removing or turning off potential sources of interference. Make sure your modem is at least 1 metre away from any of the following types of electronics and Wi-Fi–connected devices.
- Baby monitors
- Wireless security cameras
- Cordless telephone base stations
- Microwave ovens
- Wireless speaker systems
- Certain monitors and LCD displays
If, after moving the devices mentioned above, the interference persists, contact the device manufacturer for additional troubleshooting assistance.
