Yes. Canada Direct® allows you to enjoy great TELUS rates when calling Canada from overseas. You will need to configure your modem to: dial the Canada Direct® access number for the country you are calling from: give the correct responses to the automated questions (such as "Press 1 for service in English…"); dial your ISP or network connection server; and enter your Business Calling Card number.
You may need to set it to pause in between each of these steps. Check your technical support manuals for information on configuring your modem. -

How do I configure my modem to dial using my TELUS Business Calling Card?
This question is difficult to answer, as each operating system (Windows95, Windows98, WindowsNT, Windows 2000, MAC, OS/2, Unix, AIX, Linux) has various utilities to perform this function. Then there are over 500 3rd-party software titles that can be used to automate and configure modem dialing sequences. Please check the documentation that supports your particular software package or operating system
-
Does TELUS support software to automate the Dialing Sequence for Dial-Up connections?
No. TELUS conducted a field trial for a product called "Cardconnect", however this trial has been discontinued because the reality of frequent changes/upgrades to operating systems in the market place have made this software difficult to support effectively.
-
How do I use Microsoft "Dialing Properties", "Locations" and "Calling Card" properties in Windows95? Windows98? Windows 2000?
There are a number of manuals and books explaining the use of these utilities. They can be located on your computer by clicking on the "Start" button, pointing to "Settings", clicking on "Control Panel" and finally clicking on "Telephony."
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Telephony -

When traveling with a modem and laptop computer, you may encounter some unexpeManual dialing Canada Direct® with a fax or modem.
When traveling with a modem and laptop computer, you may encounter some unexpected roadblocks given the different telecommunications systems and standards that exist around the world. If you have difficulty, you can try dialing manually:
-
Call the access code of the country you are in using your computer.
-
Press 1 to select language.
-
Press 2 to select TELUS as your carrier.
-
Enter your Business Calling Card and PIN number
-
Press the # key.
-
Enter the area code and the number you are dialing.
-
Press the # key.
Note: After dialing the access code, it may be necessary to create a pause as you wait for the Canada Direct® prompt. Many countries have different types of phone sockets, dial tones, hard-wired phones, or poor-quality telephone lines, all of which will make it difficult to use your modem. Some countries have systems that are incompatible with using a modem altogether. For details on some of these problems and how you can avoid the unexpected while you travel, we recommend visiting the Teleadapt Web site at: http://www.teleadapt.com.

What do I do if I have lost or had my card stolen?
Within Canada and the U.S., please call 1-888-308-2222 at any time. From overseas, dial the local operator and ask to be connected to Canada Direct®* service
-
What do I do if I have forgotten my PIN?
Call 1-888-308-2222, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., to get your PIN. Please have your TELUS telephone bill with you when you call.
If your Calling Card has your PIN printed on it and, for security reasons, you would rather it didn't, you have two options:
-
If you want to keep the same PIN but would like a new card that does not show your PIN, please call TELUS customer service at 1-888-308-2222.
-
If you want to change your PIN, call 1-888-308-2222 and follow the recorded instructions. You will receive a new Calling Card without the PIN printed on it.
Please note: Your PIN will not be contained in the magnetic strip on the back of your new card. When you swipe your card at a pay phone, you will be prompted to enter your PIN using the telephone keypad.
If you have duplicate Calling Cards and change your PIN, you will be reissued with new cards for all the additional cardholders. Be sure to notify all the cardholders of the new PIN.

- The four corners of the keypad (e.g., 3971 or 9713, etc.) or
- The middle digits on the keypad (2580)
