How to use Anonymous Caller ID

NOTE Anonymous Caller ID requires a Call Displaysubscription and Call Display-capable equipment. The feature will be active once your order has been processed. Follow the instructions below to change your settings.

Create a Calling Features Assistant password

Skip this step if you already have a Calling Features Assistant password.

Once you have created your password,you will be able to dial the Calling Features Assistant from any touch-tone phone in any location. If you are calling from outside Alberta dial 1-403-263-6981 or 1-780-428-6824. From outside B.C. dial 1-604-520-3212. Long distance charges will apply.

  1. Dial into the Calling Features Assistant (310-8682) on a touch-tone phone. Your first call must be from the line on which Anonymous Caller ID has been installed. The first time you access this service, you will be prompted to create a password. Enter your password, then press #. Make note of your password.
  2. Press * to exit.

To turn Anonymous Caller ID off or on:

  1. Dial 310-8682 toll free from anywhere in B.C. or Alberta. If you are calling from outside B.C. or Alberta, dial 1-604-520-3212, or 1-403-263-6981 or 1-780-428-6824. Long distance charges will apply.
  2. Enter your password, then press #.
  3. At the Main Menu, listen to the voice prompt and press 4 for Anonymous Caller ID.
  4. Press 1 to turn Anonymous Caller ID on. Press 2 to turn Anonymous Caller ID off.
  5. Press * to exit the system when you are finished.

When Anonymous Caller ID is on

Callers with "Private" or "Unknown" numbers will hear: "The number you are calling subscribes to a service that does not accept calls from unidentified numbers. To continue, press 1 to display your number, or press 2 and stay on the line to record your name."

Once the Private/Unknown caller states their name the call will ring through. Pick up the phone and say 'Hello' to trigger the following recording: "You have a call from [name]. Please press the # key now for instructions."

The User then has the following options:

  1. Press 1 to accept the call (if selected you and your caller will hear "Connecting your call").
  2. Press 2 to send the call to Personal Voice Mail (your caller will hear "Connecting your call" and will be transferred to voice mail).
  3. Press 3 to send the call to an announcement:
    • Not Available announcement ("The person you are calling is not available at this time.")
    • Telemarketing announcement ("The person you are calling does not accept Telemarketing calls. Please remove this number from your calling lists.")
  4. Press 4 to repeat.

Callers will hear the Not Available recording if the subscriber:

  • Hangs up after hearing the Anonymous Caller ID prompt.
  • Does not subscribe to Voice Mail and they are on another call or do not answer the call.

Priority caller authorization list

This allows you to create a list of priority callers with "Private" numbers whose calls will bypass Anonymous Caller ID and ring directly through to your phone.

  1. Dial 310-8682 toll-free from anywhere in B.C. or Alberta. Enter your password, then press #.
  2. At the Main Menu, listen to the voice prompt and press 4 for Anonymous Caller ID.
  3. Press 3 to create, play back, edit or delete your priority caller authorization list. To create a list:
    • Enter the phone number you would like to add to the list, exactly as you would dial it, followed by #.
    • For long distance callers: Area code + 7 digits. Note: International long distance numbers cannot be added to the priority caller list.
    • Repeat the above process to continue adding numbers.
    • Press # when your list is complete.
    • To play back the list, press 1. To edit the list, press 2. To delete the entire list, press 3. To confirm deletion, press #.
  4. Press * to exit the system when you are finished.

    Note: If you hear the password prompt, press * if you want to enter a phone number other than the phone you are using.

PIN authorization code for priority callers

This PIN authorization code allows callers with "Unknown" numbers to bypass Anonymous Caller ID.

  1. Dial 310-8682 toll-free from anywhere in B.C. or Alberta. Enter your password, then press #.
  2. At the Main Menu, listen to the voice prompt and press 4 for Anonymous Caller ID.
  3. Press 9 to set up your Anonymous Caller ID PIN authorization code, which must be between three and 10 digits long.
  4. Once callers hear the Anonymous Caller ID announcement, have them proceed as follows:
    'Private' callers: Press the '#' key; enter your PIN code, Press the '#' key again.
    'Unknown' callers: Enter the PIN code immediately, then press the '#' key. The call will then proceed, displaying on your set as "Authorized Call".

Using Smart Ring® with Anonymous Caller ID

Smart Ring subscribers can have calls to their Smart Ring number bypass Anonymous Caller ID.

  1. Dial 310-8682 toll-free from anywhere in B.C. or Alberta. Enter your password, then press #.
  2. At the Main Menu, listen to the voice prompts and press 9 for Additional Options.
  3. Press 6 to change your Smart Ring options.
  4. Press 4 for Anonymous Caller ID and Smart Ring.
  5. Follow the spoken instructions

Send anonymous calls to Voice Mail

Voice Mail subscribers can send anonymous calls to Voice Mail. To turn your Anonymous Caller ID Voice Mail option on or off:

  1. Dial 310-8682 toll-free from anywhere in B.C. or Alberta. Enter your password, then press #.
  2. At the Main Menu, listen to the voice prompts and press 9 for Additional Options.
  3. Press 5 to change your Voice Mail option.
  4. Follow the spoken instructions.

No need to listen to entire voice prompts

When you hear "You have a call from name of caller ", you can immediately:

  1. Press the appropriate key
    (e.g. press 1 to accept the call, press 2 to send to Voice Mail, etc.)
    without waiting to hear all your options.
  2. Callers can press the pound (#) key during the 'record' prompt and record their name immediately without listening to the full instructions.

What your screen displays when you receive an anonymous call

Private callers are given the option to unblock their number by pressing 1 or record their name by pressing 2. If your caller chooses to unblock his or her number, your Call Display screen will display "AnonymUnblocked" and the calling number. If your caller chooses to state his or her name, the Call Display screen will display "Anonym CallerID" and the number will appear as 310-8682. You then have the option to answer the call or allow it to go to voicemail. Private and unknown callers who don't state their names when prompted will be disconnected.
