2Wire modem

The 2Wire surge protector will help provide additional protection for the 2Wire Gateway modem from power surges, when the device is installed between the gateway modem and the telephone wall jack.

Use the following steps to connect the surge protector to the 2Wire Gateway modem.

Note: The 2Wire surge protector is ONLY to be used with the 2Wire Gateway modem.




Existing Customer

  1. Turn off 2Wire Gateway modem
  2. Disconnect the phone cable from the PHONE LINE port on 2Wire Gateway modem
  3. Plug the phone cable into the jack on the surge protector
  4. Connect the cable end of the surge protector into the PHONE LINE port on the 2Wire Gateway modem
  5. Turn on 2Wire Gateway modem

  1. When prompted by the install wizard “connect your hardware”. The surge protector must be connected directly to the 2Wire Gateway modem, this new step is not covered in the install wizard
  2. Connect the cable end of the surge protector into the Phone Line port on the 2Wire Gateway modem
  3. Plug the phone cable into the jack on the surge protector
  4. Plug the other end of the phone cable into one side of the phone line adapter
  5. Turn on 2Wire Gateway modem
  6. Continue to follow the prompts of the install wizard to complete your install

Frequently Asked Questions:

If I install the 2Wire surge protector do I still need the microfilter?

Yes, you will require the microfilter to allow the ADSL signal and the regular phone signal to share the same line.

I already use a surge protector from a power outlet, do I still require the 2Wire surge protector?

Yes, the 2Wire surge protector will provide additional protection for your 2Wire Gateway from power fluctuations over the phone cable. While your existing surge protector will provide additional protection to the 2Wire Gateway from the power outlet.
